Adrian Peterson Indicted

Reckless/negligent injury to a child. Indicted.

This league may not be able to sustain too many more of these black eyes. It's a mess.

You're saying I can't be critical of people who hit their kids with shit as discipline.

Nah...you can be critical all you want. You can make any kind of claim that it isnt effective or that you have read x , y or z study and if you weere a parent you would do A, B or C method....I have no problems with that at all.

But when you start saying shit like "everyone who hits their kid with a paddle is wrong" or some kind of abuser, then I have to disagree...

There are positives and negatives with every decision you will make (or not make, or let your kids make, or not lets your kids make for themselves)...It is honestly endless....Using a paddle or belt to scare a child into behaving is definitely on the extreme side.......I would hate to ever have to do that.,...I pray I wont...But my kid is pretty awesome and compliant. I absolutely refuse to label a parent "bad" , "wrong" or "abusive" SIMPLY because they choose to use a paddle for corporal punishment, as long as they're not breaking laws or causing damage etc... and it is part of a discipline system and not just some kind of impulse or anger thing.

Sure some are going overboard, (like AP did) ....But I refuse to say that ALL are...

I never called them child abusers. But I think their discipline methods are based solely upon the culture of the community or region they live in, or because it simply makes sense to them, likely because that's how they were disciplined. I don't think enough consideration or thought was given to proper discipline if parents are still electing to use that stuff.

Barkley brought up the fact that the majority of southern blacks use whipping implements to discipline their kids. He also said a bunch of other stuff, but that much is true. Why is that kind of discipline higher among racial lines in that particular region of the United States? It's cultural, that's why. It's not genetic-- black kids don't respond to being whipped/whopped/popped better than white kids do.

Read my other post. The stinging is the first part. When you're a child, the sting is a big deal.

The potential damage/risk is psychological.

Should I go back through all of your posts and see the terminology you used?

The implication I got was that you are claiming that every parent who uses a tool to do corporal punishment was wrong - because of the abuse.

I don't know exactly how you worded it....but it seemed like it was pretty clear that this was your position.

Did you not see my back and forth with Marcellus? I SPECIFICALLY TOLD HIM that I didn't think he was a child abuser or a supporter of child abuse.

Also, Pawn, you should probably rethink what a straw man actually is before throwing that out there as a logical fallacy I'm guilty of.

We're all guilty of logical fallacies from time to time, but this isn't an instance where I'm attacking a straw man.

This is just funny. I'm trying not to insult you, because I like you...And I also didn't know shit about kids even though I have a graduate level education and have taken courses on psychology and child development..

But EVERYTHING is a big deal to a 3 year old....Believe me , on the list of big deals...not getting a cookie, losing a toy, not being able to put a lego thingy together, not having a banana in the morning.....

These all rank somewhere on the list right around getting swatted getting a 'sting'....

If we did everything based on what was 'a big deal' to the kids and not what was right , we would live in a disconnected society where kids were rude and people were shitty....oh wait...

Yes, actually it was. You responded to my post by discussing "beating" your children.

Then you 'proved' how beating was bad.

I never said I was in favor of beating/abusing children.

Thats called a straw man, because you exaggerated and misrepresented my argument - since I am NOT in favor of "beating" children.

That's the first time I've said "beating" this entire thread. You know what I meant. The pages and pages before this was about me drawing a line between using shit on kids and spanking. I got lazy and said "beating" and now you're calling me out on a technicality.

I realize words have meaning, but come on. This is the internet, not a court room.
