Your making me want it. I never dissed blood borne or said it was bad, I just didn't know if it was a day or week one purchase. It did look kinda scary and interesting, I've never played a dark souls game nor have I ever really dabbled into RPGs too much however I like playing games on the hardest difficulty. I just need to know more about it because I've been quite dissapointed with the titles as of late and bored to say the least. Dying light hasn't been touched in over a month it was fun for a bit but the format became repetitive and boring, ac unity is ok but still seems buggy. I've just been playing Gta online and madden online ranked but I'm just waiting on a next title to keep me fully engaged and entertained. I'm a picky gamer. Tomb raider and wolfenstein were really fun though and were some of my favorites for the 4. I'm hoping the new batman will be that next title while I wait for metal gear. But like I said blood borne looks good, I just really need to know more.

Bloodborne (Initial Impressions) - PS4
Growing up I recall when we got our first gaming console. It was an Atari with three games. Tanks, Pac Man and Tennis.
****, we've come a long way. This goddamned game is one of the most frustrating games I've ever played. I swear, two hours into this thing yesterday, I was a red pube away from driving to Gamestop and getting a refund or trading it in on a nice, simple FPS. However thanks to Buck and a few others, I stuck with it. At 7:00 this evening I deleted the game I was struggling with, actually took my time and researched character setup, weapon attributes, fighting mechanics and navigation and I am glad I did. I've now made it three times further in this game than I did with my initial playthru in 1/4 the time. I've found shortcuts, loot and I've made it to the first boss. (I'm not quite ready for him yet) Where in my first attempt, I died at least a dozen times and nearly raged the **** out, I've played this one for 4 hours and haven't bit it yet. This game is like nothing you've ever played if you're a casual to intermediate gamer. This is a masterpiece of strategy and patience where you should be prepared to spend at least 60+ hours in gameplay. There are no power ups, instant save points or difficulty sliders. This game is absolutely brutal. Where at first I was seriously questioning my purchase and where the Gonzo of old would've long given up, I nutted up and put forth a little effort. The game is beautiful. The graphics, music and surrounding aesthetics are the best you'll find in any game. God, the music is just outstanding and seamless during situational changes. You start out not having a clue of WTF you're supposed to do or supposed to go and I can tell you, not much changes during the first few hours. The only guide you have in this world are subtle hints left for you by other players or random mobs behind closed doors. This is a total solo effort (for the most part) and its up to you to figure out where to go. Once you've accepted what this game is about and what it's expectations of the player are, you'll find it a very rewarding experience. I know many of you have played games in the Dark Souls lineup but this was more directed towards other noobs to the genre like myself. Give this game an honest chance, you won't be sorry. I'm certainly glad I did and it's opened me up to a whole other world of gaming. I'll definitely write more regarding this one. Feel free to post any advice or impressions you have. |

This is a PS4 exclusive. I would assume it'll eventually be released on PC but that will be a year or two down the line. It's really not comparable to anything else in their library at the moment. I guess it's a lot like the Dark Souls games but it has a lot of variance. From what you've stated, you and I are similar with what we enjoy game-wise. You'll get pretty frustrated with this at first but I recommend you check out a couple walk-throughs. If you end up getting it, definitely research it a little. Going in all balls-out is where I screwed up. They call it an RPG but I'd classify it more as a survival horror/strategy game. It's very intense man. If you pick it up, let me know. |

I have my iPad right next to me. There's not a shit ton of info available just yet but there's enough. They're releasing a game guide that goes with the game on your ps4 that should help quite a bit. |

My main question about the game.....is it obvious where you need to go and what you need to do? Is there a map?

I remember when gaming was in it's infancy and everything was new and innovative, now pretty much everything is cookie cutter. Thank goodness for some of the indies, they can inject new life into a stale gaming world. I'm talking about gaming in the 80's and early 90's it was all new a fresh, not everything fit into a cookie cutter mold. I especially despise military shooters, wasted talent to me. So good to know DICE is wasting time on that rather than the Mirrors Edge reboot(I would have preferred a sequel to a reboot). Star Control 2 was one of the greatest games ever and they took the development team and have them making baby games, more examples of wasted talent..sigh.........
RIP Toys for Bob.

You're gonna die so many times and run through the level that by the time you're done with it you'll memorize where everything is. The coolest thing is unlocking shortcuts as you go through the level so that you can bypass a lot of shit as you progress. What I love is that the game isn't linear at all. You can play the game any way you want and at your own pace. I died to the second boss about 20 times before I realized what I was doing wrong and then I beat him the next time I faced him. That is the cool thing about this game. It doesn't tell you how to do anything (except basic controls) and you have to figure it out and it's not obvious or easy what you're supposed to do. |

Future Press does a great job on these guides, but they will be outdated after a few balance updates the game will surely get. Boss strategies and walkthroughs should remain the same - but item/weapon stats will change.

Faced the first boss. Had full supply of echos and molitovs. I was kicking ass... Until he got me pinned against the far wall. I got him down to damn near 10% health. SHIT! That was so frustrating. However, I found a way to farm a little. I'll be back up to strength within a half hour of gameplay. Stupid work! Gotta go make money.

Quikies, I saw you mention that nobody other than From makes games like this? Is it because it's too hard to do? Surely there is a demand for more of these kinds of games.

But as you and a few others have probably noticed, the mechanics, directions, tutorials, maps, and online component are pretty obtuse (which i love). I wouldn't say other folks can't do it, but the risk may be too great for them. Look at "Lords of the Fallen". That game tried its best Dark Souls clone, it was a disaster. edit: It takes a certain type of personality to enjoy these games.. Most folks want their hand held, easy checkpoints, quick saves, and a pause button
