Alex Smith is a damn good QB

Just look at some of the numbers around the league today. We're lucky to have him as our QB.

Until it does.

Let's have a hypothetical side discussion here. You're a lifelong Chiefs fan. Let's say your son enters the NFL Draft and is drafted by the Panthers. You obviously start watching Panthers games and in doing so, become more interested in their players etc. So you are watching the games and are interested in the players (other than your proverbial son) and are interested in the teams success. Aren't you then a "fan" of that team? Not as much of a fan as you are of the Chiefs for sure as that is decades old and forged through pain and triumph... but certainly more of a fan than you are of the other 30 teams who you neither follow or invest any time in.

Before I found myself on one side of the Smith debate in SF, I would have agreed with you. I couldn't fathom rooting for another team. I'd remembered following the Chiefs a little when Montana was traded over here but had kinda chalked that up to being a kid. And then I invested 7 or 8 years into this debate and when he was signed with the Chiefs I realized I was still interested in following his career. Watching how it turned out. As a result, I'm now more of a Chiefs fan than I was before he signed here... I'm more of a chiefs fan than I am a Raiders fan or a Steelers fan. I'm still a passionate fan of the niners, but also want the Chiefs to succeed.

I've said before that I know a kid that will be coming out in the draft next year. Just a few years older than my son and played for my HS team and now my son's HS football team. I already know that unless he signs for the 49ers or the Chiefs, I will pick up a third team next year to be a fan of at varying levels.

I understand that many of you can't understand this, like I said, I would have been there with you about 3 years ago. But it is what it is.

Good post. I love the Chiefs but in the end, its not "life".

Edit: I am passionate about the Chiefs though and have to remind myself sometimes that it is just a hobby.

Yeah, fan loyalty is crap... if you're going to run a business though, blind loyalty from your customers would be the way to go.

Nothing new about that, you can always win a ton of games in the REGULAR SEASON that way. Marty Schottenheimer can vouche for that. You will get beat come January though.
