I loved the Dorsey hire and thought the Reid hire was a mistake. Now, my opinion would be Reid's coaching and his players love for him is the only reason this team wasn't a $#it-show the last two years...

So, I guess with the trade, we also managed to not sign a free agent guard, which does not endanger comp picks next year either.
P.S. Is it okay to talk about the Grubbs trade in here?

Not sure if go that far, but it wouldn't shock me.
Teams with no glaring weaknesses tend to do well in the playoffs. |

Not sure if we win playoff games bc we always **** it up, but this team should absolutely be back in the playoffs with double-digit wins this season unless we have massive injuries at key positions.
There really isn't a powerhouse team in the AFC this year.

unlike previous years with Manning, I don't think of Denver as a lock to win the division. We have a real solid team.
but the rule of thumb for about a decade and a half has been Tom and Peyton win their divisions... I'd give New England about 100% to win their division this year. I'll roll with Denver 70% Chiefs 30% and that's not a slight on the Chiefs at all ... it's just really hard to win a Peyton Manning division. ...especially if he comes out sharp like he did last season. It seems like 3 years in a row now he's been 'all-time great' Peyton Manning up until about week 12 when it gets cold. |

I do think we are the 3rd best team in the AFC, though. Right behind New England and Denver. Just unfortunate one of those teams happens to be in our freaking division.

Their defense isn't close to what it was but they just have so many ways to beat you on offense. With the defections in NE, I don't think they're clearly a cut above by any stretch. I agree that you have to give them any ties based on their past successes, but they could just as easily come back to the pack a big given the strength of their division. It's a really really tight AFC. I think 11 teams could make legitimate cases that they're playoff teams next season. Tier 1 AFC Teams: Denver NE Pitt. Tier 2: Colts Chiefs Bills Bengals Ravens Tier 3: Dolphins Chargers Texans Tier 4: Browns Jets Tier 5: Raiders Jags Titans Tier 1 should be playoff locks, tier 2 should provide your other 3 playoff teams with tier 3 having a chance to sneak a team in there. Tier 4 could be frisky through Thanksgiving and Tier 5 is just gonna suck.

Honestly, the entire season will come down to getting through this goddamn Manning mental block this team has.
Lose to him twice again and they won't make the playoffs. Frankly, lose to the ****ing Broncos twice again and I just won't care if they make the playoffs either way. If they can't figure out a way to finally beat this friggen guy, then they're just not mentally tough enough to do any damage in the post-season. The ****er is mortal. I sat there for that nighttime debacle in Arrowhead last year and watched that duck-chucking has-been look more beateable than Damon Huard. I've seen the Chiefs lose by 40 and not been as disgusted by them as I was watching them that night. They're scared of the Broncos. They see them take the field and they're just beaten by the uniforms. There was no way on God's green earth that they should have lost that game last year. It's 100% between their ears and if they can't get over it, they deserve to sit at home in January. The goal should be the division and they have the talent to do it. They just can't keep spotting Denver 2 games every friggen year.

the game @ Arrowhead was a damn joke
at no point did we even look like we belonged on that field I'm interested to see the first month of Denver games this year. If Manning looks like he did at the end of last year, that team is done. Just ****ing done. If he looked like that because of the reported injury, though, yeah...we're ****ed. It's well documented (trust me, it is) that Peyton has had career long struggles in the postseason (whether or not that is on Peyton Manning I don't feel like debating today)...but that dude is a ****ing lock to win his division if he's right. Hell, he threw 55 TD's two years ago with 60% of the arm strength he had in his prime. He just knows what the defense is doing at all times and he doesn't make very many wrong reads. And Sutton can't figure it out. I SO wanted Denver to 86 Peyton this offseason. I knew they wouldn't, because it doesn't make sense, but it sucks sharing a division with that guy. Just like I'm sure it's tough being a Bills / Jets or Dolphins fan. That said, we have the talent to beat a Peyton team just like the old Jags teams used to give Peyton's Colts all sorts of troubles... but we have to control the clock and control the T.O.P. like we did last year against Seattle. That first half, offensively, was a thing of beauty. MJD and Fred Taylor (and the Jags) used to just turn those Indy/Jags games into 17-14 slugfests. I think we're a better team than Denver this year ... but the NFL is still mostly about the QB ... and unfortunately, they have one of the elites. |

and our defensive game plan against Denver should be pretty easy
...force Peyton into those "robotic reads" (that tk13 calls them) and force him to throw deep balls to Emmanuel and Demaryius. That's the throw he struggles with now. |

I don't think they are scared of Manning. They almost beat him early on in Denver last year.
Manning didn't beat us at Arrowhead. CJ Anderson did. Hell Manning had trouble throwing downfield against us. We lost at Arrowhead bc the offense lacked so much talent and we weren't prepared. Our OL sucked ass. Our receivers sucked ass. I feel much better about our chances this year.
