Malaysia Airlines loses contact with plane carrying 239 people

Malaysia Airlines says it has lost contact with a plane with 239 aboard enroute from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

The airline said in a statement early Saturday it was attempting to locate the Boeing 777 after it lost contact with Subang Air Traffic Control at 2:40 a.m. It was scheduled to land in Beijing at 6:30 a.m.

China's state-run news agency Xinhua reported the plane was lost in airspace controlled by Vietnam, and did not make contact with Chinese air traffic controllers.

The plane is carrying 227 passengers, including two infants, and 12 crew members. The airline said it is working with authorities to locate the plane.

Boeing said on its Twitter account it is monitoring the situation, and "our thoughts are with everyone on board."

It was either suicide or the plane landed somewhere. I read the other day it had enough fuel to get to Somalia. I would hope our intelligence agencies are checking out some of the possible locations.

If he wanted to do a silent suicide and leave insurance money to his kids, then it doesn't seem like taking the plane off course and disappearing would do that. It seems like you'd manufacture an emergency and bring the plane down after conking the other pilot in the head.

Why would you take seven hours to kill yourself when it's going to become apparent that it's a suicide? I don't get it.
I agree. Just seems he went to alot of work just to kill himself.

most insurance policies (at least in the US) don't even have a suicide exclusion, some do based on a time period after the policy was opened.

Suicide in this manner doesn't make any reasonable sense as any sort of protest.

I think MH 370 was downed in the ultimate example of Murphy's Law: everything that could've gone wrong did to the point that the plane flew itself into the nether regions of unexplored ocean so that we never fully understand what happened.

Some people plan suicides quite elaborately.

A key part of that scenario is that everyone still believes you crashed in the south China sea, and just can't ever find a trace.

Somalia can be definitively ruled out, unless you think they managed to land, refuel, and take off. That entire northern corridor is also very unlikely since you are flying over some very paranoid, very militarized countries who would not tolerate a mysterious 777 without a transponder.

It is very likely that the plane is in the water to the south. Our homework assignment is figuring out why.

Like I said I read an article that stated that a Malaysian official stated they had enough fuel to make it to Somalia. Somalia has little to no radar and is pretty much a terrorist hideout.
Quote:
Another Malaysian air force official told Tencent that flight MH370 could have flown west as far as Somalia or north past Thailand and Myanmar to the southern part of Mongolia. The chosen flight path would have been close to the borders of several countries, where radar detection is relatively weak, the official added.
You might be right that it is in the Indian Ocean I am just theorizing.

They did not fly straight to Somalia. We know for a fact that 7 hours after takeoff, the plane was somewhere in those red lines (the larger orange area represents an additional hour of flight time)
