Is Veach waiting for a loss to start fixing the defense?

Maybe I'm wrong, but in my opinion, when you have this type of once in a lifetime offense, you do what needs to be done to "buy" a championship (ie: Royals in 2015). I know we're just a few games in, but at what point does Veach start trading off draft picks to fix the defense? Or is he possibly that naïve that he does nothing and rolls with the "we'll improve as the year progresses" type of stance? Another couple weeks for the "teams playing for draft position" to separate themselves?

BTW, it took all I could to write that in a civil manner without any swearing or bitching.

I was under the impression KC spent so much time failing precisely because they were always trading picks for 29 year old veterans who had maybe a few years left.

At least that was the narrative.

This place is anything but consistent though. One day draft picks are good and we shouldn't trade them for vets, the next they're garbage and vets with a few years left are a better investment.

Well, for the sake of consistency, I'll give you my view.

The core of the team should be built through the draft. The first and most important position is the QB. The Chiefs treatment of that position is the largest reason for their failure over the last 40+ years.

So when you say it was "because they were always trading picks for 29 year old veterans who had maybe a few years left", we were often talking SPECIFICALLY about QBs.

Now that we have a real QB, the rest of it becomes a bit more malleable. You still want to build the core through the draft, which they have done to a large degree, especially on offense.

The problem is that with even a mediocre defense, this team is a realistic contender to win it all. If ever there was a time to give away picks for rent-a-players, this is the time.

Yeah I mean, I’m not necessarily against it but I just hate giving up those high picks with the money issue

Well he was an owner, he had at least some leverage. Eric Reid has none.

Sounds like he's traded for Earl Thomas.

You can and probably should dump Houston, I dont think I'd resgin Ford but then your pass rush really sucks. You must resign Hill and Morse. Watkins cap goes up to 19mil.

I dont know how they can trade a premium pick in next years draft.

If Earl Thomas is available, you do whatever it takes to get him. I'm tired of waiting for "next year".

This could finally THE year.

They’ve got a qb playing his first season, and he’s 3 games in

It’s exciting but maybe a bit premature?

I don’t know how high of a pick it would take at this point.

He's set multiple NFL records in the first 3 weeks.

But sure, let's just play for next year.

And when next year rolls around, we'll play for the year after.

Because Chiefs.
