If you're not a guy going out there in the offseason going to clinics to improve your explosion/athleticism, you're losing ground to people that are coming to take your job.

Overtraining may also play a role - these guys aren't taking February/March off like they used to. They're going out there and doing speed/strength training in the off-season because the era of non-guaranteed contracts and rookie salary scales says that if they don't, a younger, cheaper model may be sitting in their locker in short order.

You'd be hard pressed to find a player that's not doing those plyometric exercises and circuit training (high intensity, low rest) exercises.
so basically in some ways, it's defeating it's own cause.

Yeah, in some ways.

At the same time, it's better to make the team, get hurt and still get paid on the IR (or injury settlement) than it is to get cut and end up unemployed.

If you're an NFL player and this is your livelihood, you do what it takes to make the squad and keep your job. If you get hurt, well that's the risk you took but it's still better than getting cut and bagging groceries.

Didn't this injury occur when we put him out on a point return late, up 2 scores? If so I don't think this one gets chalked up as bad luck. He shouldn't have been out there up 2 scores week 5 for this reason.

I know that may seem wrong considering what he did the next punt but I think we should be conservative with him right now.

Nope. That was an ankle injury. This was apparently an injury that occurred during practice.

I was always a fan of their French Silk pie. Though that might have been Tippins.

Definitely Tippins and me too! Best thing they had aside from their shepherd's pie.

Obviously we have no clue right now how this will play out, but there's no way we beat Pittsburgh without both Houston and Hill. Those two are about as valuable as they come for us.
