National media is stupidly obsessed with Deshaun Watson
One of the things I promised myself when we finally drafted a 1st round QB was to soak up as many media coverage clips and articles on the drafting of our guy as well as an assessment of the player himself. So I've been doing quite a bit of that.
I didn't think this would be such a ****ing issue. I thought the NFL Network coverage on draft night was just an isolated incident, when Rich Eisen was like, "What the ****??? Mahomes??? Not Deshaun Watson???" All they can talk about is how Deshaun Watson has the best resume of the rookie QBs because of winzzzzz. Stephen A Smith I would expect to be an idiot. But it goes down the line. Cowherd is obsessed with Watson, but did give credit to Andy Reid for being bold. Rich Eisen is continuing this bullshit stream about Watson. The only overwhelmingly positive sources I heard from were the Around the Horn folks... Woody Paige of all people predicting that Mahomes would have the best career out of all the 1st round QBs. I have nothing against Watson, but I'm just shocked that the sources we've been coming across about how skillfully Dorsey played the field and how so many freakin teams were itching to trade up and get Mahomes have not been circulating around the post-draft coverage. Now that facts have come out and the dust has settled, people on ESPN and NFL Network are still talking about Mahomes vs Watson like it's still the pre-draft process in February. I've got a couple Chiefs fan friends of mine (they don't want to join this place when I describe it to them for some reason...) who are actually MISERABLE about Reid and Dorsey choosing Mahomes over Watson. Part of their problem is they still buy into the myths about winning QBs in college, but the other is they simply don't get the right information. They're more casual Chiefs fans than I am, but they really got into the draft, and their takeaway is nothing but gloom because everybody on TV and radio thinks we took the wrong guy. And they're not going to buy what I know because, "I'm just another fan, not a sports journalist or an expert." You may ask why this matters to me. I couldn't really tell you. I guess part of it is that last Thursday was the happiest draft night/day I've ever experienced in my life, and it's upsetting that not all Chiefs fans are able to share that same excitement and enjoyment that I did. I feel really sorry for them. I truly do. I think that's what's bugging me the most about all this. Anyway, rant over. Go Chiefs. |
