I am all for it. Kid's develop better language learning how to communicate with other kids in a variety of play scenarios and lessons. Expense is one thing, but if you can swing it, I say give it a shot. Your kid will let you know if they hate it....but I bet they won't.

Actually, I am pushing Pete to this Montessori school for selfish reasons. Child protection reasons really. Royals season is drawing near. The negatively that he shines on this board should not be tolerated by anyone, let alone kids. They need to grow up knowing that people who enforce rules, like umpires, aren't always trash. That baseball is not a perfect game and that's what makes it perfect.
I hope.....I hope for a better world for Pete's kids. |

I think you do what YOU think is best for your kids. It's a good idea to listen to other people to learn about new options, but ultimately, it's your job to keep the child from changing her name to Sinnemon, right?
Honestly, my personal insight is minimal on Montesori, but it always seemed like the berkinstock-hippy option where your child gets to do whatever they want to do....and that didn't appeal to my parenting style. I think the individual, small provider can be GREAT for a kid, if the provider is a great person. My kids went to a lady who had 10-12 kids at a time, and had very little turnover. They did learning games and puzzles, had directed play time, and free time. The kids were loved and formed great friendships with the other kids who were there, that are still apparent in their older schooling. A quality provider is awesome. I also know of other providers the same size that dump a bag of Cheetos in a bowl, and barely wipe snot off of kids while she watches Maury all day....I'd never have tolerated that. All kids go through phases, it's part of their development to go through that. My youngest became afraid of the dark a couple of months ago and it lasted 2 weeks until I figured out it was shadows he had become aware of...and showed him what was making them and it was over. The bath could be a very simple awareness thing that ends next week, it doesn't mean something bad happened. Your child, Your responsibility. Don't let anyone else make you do what you don't believe to be best for your child. |

From what I've seen, no thanks.
I've known kids who have done Waldorf, Montessori, home schooling, pre school....and they all turn out OK. I think it's more of what feels right For your kid. Getting half of it paid is nice though.....but if it doesn't feel right when you check it out ....then meh Why is he so insistent that it has to be a Montessori school and not another type?

Then that would cover the cost of the school. That wouldn't be "profit". Words...meanings...
