Sad.
Kansas makes its hay with men's basketball, and that's it. Everyone knows it. It's a shame, too - if they upgraded their facilities maybe more prospective athletes would take them seriously? Take their women's volleyball team. They are a top 10 team in the nation this year, but their arena is old, dingy, and small. Liberty North High School here in KC has a much better set up for volleyball than Kansas does, and can hold nearly as many people (Liberty North has a jumbotron they use for volleyball/basketball, for shit's sake!). I realize that women's volleyball isn't anywhere near the draw of men's basketball or football, but the point stands. Anything not basketball at KU isn't given the same level of treatment, and they seemingly give zero ****s about that. It's too bad. |

So i had "gridiron club" seats for the game 4:22 AM (15 votes) First off, id like to thank papa gump for the opportunity. Anyway, got some Gridiron club seats for the beat down. Showed up in the "club" about 30 mins prior to kick and its 35 degrees in the hutch. They have a couple weak ass heaters close to the "bar" that dont do a damn thing. The building is cold as ****. They couldnt pick up a couple space heaters at lowes? None of the TVs are turned on. The carpet looked like a fraternity mat after 10 house parties. It was that stained. The covers over the tables were stained and heinous. Everyone inside was freezing their nuts off. You could see your breath. By the way clearly some of our fans sold their tickets to taters - judging by the amount of camo and carhardt onesies in the "building." Cant say that i blame them, but that was fun. Grabbed a coors light (no RD) and i thought i would get frost bite brah. You couldnt see the field. The windows were covered in ice, they eventually started scraping them midway through the first quarter so the patrons could see the field. Thanks. The TVs came on about the same time. First we were watching the USC UCLA game until they finally put our game on...again midway through the first quarter. I got kinda pissed because I couldn't see a got damn thing and decided to go outside. Wait...none of the recliners out front were dried off. Just covered in water and ice. Unless you are a mastadon, why would you sit down there. I mean got damn. My favorite part was whenever gay state would score another easy ass TD they would kick and extra point and it would loudly doink off the roof of the "Gridiron club" as the ku fans tried to suck down beers to numb the pain Fire Gump. |

At Kansas there are construction projects going on outside of athletics. That's what makes us different from the other local schools and that's why Kansas is by far the most valued. |

There are 2 sports anyone cares about. Kansas is elite in one. MU + KSU are elite in neither. In fact, they'll suck at both this year.

I think Mizzou's Women's Volleyball team is ranked near the end otherwise I don't think either of those schools are ranked in anything this fall and/or winter. |

Kansas State has completely lapped Kansas in terms of academic facilities in the past two decades. What they have done in both athletic and academic upgrades is remarkable. That is a direction a Kansas fan doesn't want to go.

Given the 1-7 football team in SEC play, the no-hope hoops program, and the turmoil on campus......there's never been a worse time to be a Mizzou fan. (And that's really saying something)

I thought K State was showing some nice development under Weber with a decent showing against Carolina but a "squeaking" by of South Carolina State this weekend erased most of the positive feelings. Sure it's not as bad as the colossal disaster of last season losing at home to a school called Texas Southern but it's not far off. Given the fact that the Big 12 is loaded with basketball teams this year I don't see KSU mounting much of a showing in 2016. KU, KSU, and Iowa State all finished at the bottom in football but at least KU and ISU have premiere basketball teams to fill the void. For Mizzou the basketball so far has been beyond pathetic but so is the league. The SEC just can't seem to get it together in anything once they began their "conference pride" bullshit and it's starting to make them all look like clowns. Outside of Kentucky and Alabama there really isn't much to get excited about in either sport. Throw in the fact that no one seems to be interested in the MU head coaching position and even their own staff are looking elsewhere you have to be concerned for the MU fan that they're looking at Kim Anderson Part 2 in regards to football. Tough spots for both fanbases. Last edited by Bambi; 12-01-2015 at 01:00 PM.. |
