Bills trade for Matt Cassel

According to NFL app. LOL.

Rapaport says for undisclosed draft picks.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Is this like an NBA deal where you trade for someone and then cut them and somehow get cap relief? Surely there must be some reason other than Rex gonna Rex

By the way, Genobators - this guy believed in Geno Smith. The guy who just traded for Matt Cassel.

And handled the Geno thin completely wrong. Win or lose he shouldn't have been on the field his rookie year...

Unbelievable.
I think you're confused. The Bills didn't do the equivalent of trading Jamaal Charles for the injured linebacker, they did the equivalent of trading the injured linebacker for Jamaal Charles.

Wait, what? The Bills GOT McCoy. What you outline above seems to be a team that GAVE AWY it's franchise RB and then got Cassel.

Cassel is just as good as Orton (we had them both at the same time).
I think Cassel is underrated. He was pretty successful for the Pats and then for the Chiefs when he had good coaching. Under Charlie Weis, he had a 27 TD/ 7 INT season and looked like our answer. Then Todd Haley was a dick and drove Charlie out of town.
Cassel was a disaster in the Romeo Crennel/ Brian Daboll offense, but so would anybody.
I recall there was a game where the Chiefs lost to the Ravens 9-6 in a game where neither offense could do shit. After the game a reporter asked Romeo what we would do in the next game if the opponent just kept 8 guys in the box all day to stop Jamaal like the Ravens had. Romeo said "We'll run away from that 8th guy."
In other words, we had coaches who seemed not to know of the existence of the play-action pass. Any quarterback would look shitty on those teams.
Cassel is a really fiery competitor and will be a leader ASAP while giving you a pretty decent performance.

Orton is better than Cassel, but they don't have Orton anymore.

Cassel is a placeholder until they find a real QB. It's not the world's worst plan. The picks they traded are insignficiatn (gave a 5th and 7th, got Cassel and a 6th back).

Rex's Plan SEEMS to be:

1. maintain awesome defense (duh)

2. start fixing the god-awful offense by finding an elite RB (check, but we'll see if he declines.

3. find SOMEONE to play at QB until we can draft the QB of the future.

Note, Bills do NOT have a 1st round pick this year (traded away for Watkins).

Note that the last time the Patriots played Cassel was early in 2014, and he threw us four picks, so I'm pretty ok with him being in the AFC East...
