-- Which D formation/sets would give KC the most realistic chance of winning vs. PM
Just wondering and trying to learn the game more.

But say you were to spear-head the D going in to Denver.

How would you start off, at least? What approach would give us the best chance, factoring in our soft secondary?

Do you just spread them out and hope that we can stop the run?

He's got okay vision, but he's slow and has no moves. Only average strength.

Basically he's just like the rest of Peyton's RBs since Edgerrin James. Better than he actually is.

If we weren't so feckless, he would be a complete non-issue.

To answer you a little better, it truly depend 9 a variety of factors. Your personnel groupings, alignments/fronts, and coverages are going to vary based on down and distance, their alignment (3×2 vs 2×2 vs empty). Your coverages and blitz concepts are also going to depend on those as well as by spacing (field vs boundary).


To be extremely blunt, the shortest distance to the QB is the A gap. Effective interior pressure gets the QB off his spot and is much safer than overload concepts IMO.

Your D-Line has to play better than our O-Line AND your secondary has to play better than our WR's. That's pretty much it. That's how Seattle trounced us. Controlling our RB's (and Orange Julius) with your LB's/Safeties is secondary but also helpful. It's not so much scheme. You have to outplay us.

Crennel always seemed to have Manning's number....go back and watch how he utilized the 3-4. It wasnt an attacking defense...the blitz will get you killed. Had KC had someone other than Cassel at QB..they would have beaten him.

If you don't you won't beat him. Simple as that.

When he lost all those MNF games and playoff games the Steelers, Chargers, and Pats all put him on his ass.

They also had a secondary good enough to allow the rush to get there.

That second part is what we fail in horribly...
