They paid a hefty sum for Alex Smith. They aren't going to draft a QB high and cause an immediate QB controversy.
From the looks of things we could get one of these guys on day 2, where they belong, and he could watch for a while. That would be nice. |

Let me put it this way. I honestly feel there's not a team in the league that would take a QB 1.1 this year.

How many would take one at 1.10?

They, the Hunts didn't interfere, or become the focal point of the team, like the extreme examples I gave of Jones and Snyder. This is what I really liked about their leadership style. But it is glaringly obvious that they have interfered on this issue for a very long time. I would rather have to deal with the other extreme, that at least has a chance of winning. Not really that difficult to follow. |

That 2nd day QB drafting has worked out so well for this team in the past /Croyle, Stanzi, Barnes, Stenstrom, Mathews, Blundin, Elkins, McManus, Hudson, Fuller, Woods, Jaynes If you don't learn by your mistakes, you are destined to repeat them. |

I do think, however, that not selecting a quarterback in the modern era was more a product of Carl Peterson than the Hunts. I could very easily see his egomania causing him to actually be afraid of missing on a quarterback. And Scott Pioli was an idiot. That's why he didn't draft a quarterback. He was an idiot. |

The difference between 1.1 and 1.10 is less than the yearly salary our punter is making. What has the best LT in football gotten the Browns? What did Jake Long get the Dolphins? How many games did the Chiefs win b/c of Will Shields, or the Jets in Faneca's prime? What does Geno Smith hitting get the Chiefs? In contention for the SB every year. What does Geno Smith missing get the Chiefs? No worse off than they are right now. What are the financial implications of the Chiefs whiffing on Geno Smith? Minimal. What effect does Geno Smith missing have on the Chiefs ability to build a competitive core? The same that the current version of Alex Smith does--one that's not good enough. What QB has the best chance of hitting in this draft? Geno Smith. So, I say again, what's the downside of taking a QB in this situation if you are the Chiefs, Jags, Eagles, Raiders, Browns, Cardinals, Bills, Jets, and several others? Are you going to be unable to not win the Super Bowl the same way you didn't win it last year? Given the structure of the NFL's TV contracts these teams have little-to-nothing to lose by making these moves. The team isn't going to go under. It will still turn a tremendous profit. And it might turn you into a consistent competitor. Of course, if the QB misses, the GM will most likely lose his job, and that is why most of the teams will pass on one, because the GM values his job security over the purpose of his job.

I think the fact that teams have been desperate to get free agent QB's this year (even now they are trying to get Mallett) instead of moving up to make sure they can get Geno Smith tells us that Geno Smith isn't that great.

Oh, and I have no problem telling you who the GMs of this team have been for the last 44 years. Jack Steadman was the last GM to draft a QB for the Chiefs in the first round, and that turned out to be such a horrible pick, the TEAM owned by the HUNTS has not picked one since. |

Almost every team who needed a quarterback this offseason has decided that the available free agents are better than Geno Smith will likely turn out to be. |
