Chiefs | Could meet with Peyton Manning
Sat, 10 Mar 2012 05:32:02 -0800

There is a possibility free-agent QB Peyton Manning (Colts) could meet with the Kansas City Chiefs, after meeting with the Denver Broncos Friday, March 9.

Broncos | Not necessarily favorite to land Peyton Manning
Sat, 10 Mar 2012 05:23:32 -0800

Free-agent QB Peyton Manning's (Colts) visit with the Denver Broncos Friday, March 9, does not make them the favorite to land Manning. In fact, other teams are starting to be aggressive in expressing their interest. No contract negotiations were expected to occur during the visit. Manning did not work out for the Broncos, but wanted to familiarize himself with the team's facilities, organization and geography.

Jets | Peyton Manning was not interested
Sat, 10 Mar 2012 05:20:59 -0800

Free-agent QB Peyton Manning (Colts) did not have any interest in signing with the New York Jets, who extended the contract of QB Mark Sanchez Friday, March 9. Manning has begun to take recruiting trips and the Jets weren't on his itinerary.

Condon reps Alex Smith , and a number of other QB's like Brees, which while its not gonna decide things ultimately, don't think it won't affect how he negotiates with teams. Plus, Condon played for the Chiefs & is quite chummy with the front office and the Clark family. Not saying this will decide things, but Peyton does like KC, the town, and has always been impressed with the Fans and Arrowhead atmosphere. Plus, his wife is pretty low key & def. more of a Midwest girl & would likely prefer a market like Indy or KC as opposed to say NY. They are here at least a few times a year and Peyton likes supporting the 101 Banquet.
If the Chiefs are serious about going after him, I know those that are in his ear prob. would support going to KC bc they have young talent, avoids the NFC or AFC East, and the West could be an easier division to dominate and secure home field throughout the playoffs.

It could all just be gesturing by the Chiefs, but they offer quite a possibly ideal situation to land, create the least problems for other player's the agents also represent, and that will play a factor. Interned for Condon and Ken Kremer my last year in lawschool & this same situation occurred when Drew Brees became a free agent, and they def. steered the direction of him going to the Saints in part with how that might hurt or help other guys they also represented.
There's a part of me that wonders (and yeah, it's a desperate reach for any positive news) if the Chiefs called, threw a number in his ear, and made their pitch, and these visits he's doing are basically to see if any other team's situations match what the Chiefs offer. If that's the case, the last stop on the tour is most important.

On the other hand, it's also very possible that Peyton has decided on a very short list. If he's going to make a decision in a week, time is running out for the Chiefs. If he has a few more teams to visit, it sure seems to me that if the Chiefs aren't next in line, they may never be in line at all.

I don't understand after the Fisher thing, the drama with Pioli & Haley and now a potential no visit you could say they're just fine.

Yup. Also keep in mind that Tebow is going to be on Denver's team no matter what. And it's going to hurt his ability to get a new contract.

There's no guarantee that Cassel stays in KC, Peyton or no Peyton. Actually, when you really think about it, if Cassel were to be cut today, that's actually his best way of getting a meaty long-term contract from some other team.

Exactly, if Peter has a hand in this at all from out in LA, he will press hard to not f%ck up Tebows branding, but when I was there was just during the move from IMG to CAR, and Tom and Ken were pretty adamant about not being sucked under their top brass and micromanage - I was always instructed to give as little detail as possible to the LA folks "checking in", and that was a major point of agreeing to goto CAA was that they wouldn't have to move to LA where they felt they would be constantly scrutinized.

Peyton is a control freak. So is Pioli. We know this. This is what worries me.

In order for the Chiefs to get Peyton, they'll have to convince him that they're willing to do things differently and let Peyton do his thing. Which is a LOT. The good news is, Pioli never had a problem keeping Brady around, who probably wanted similar things.

you have NO IDEA whether Manning is going to visit or not so stop crying.

As for Drama between Pioli and Haley ... i only saw drama from Haley. He got fired and started pouting like a child. He had a chance to prove the stuff he was pouting about and he didn't, because he couldn't. He was full of shit.

Ya know, I'm not really worried about Pioli being an issue, as I think he would probably agree that Peyton would be the best person calling the shots on the offense compared to any of the coaches currently on staff, and Peyton does like our new OC.

Yeah, weird, I was thinking it was pretty much fact that it was to AZ then KC on Sunday. I haven't read the whole thread, but this is going to get interesting.

That's the thing. What competent GM wouldn't allow Manning to run this offense how he wants? He's a ****ing HoF QB.
