The Dark Tower
Holy shit, it's actually happening. For real.
Starring Idris Elba as the gunslinger (which might explain the recent weird rumor about a white actress being cast as susannah...) and Matthew McConaughey as the man in black. Directed by Nikolaj Arcel and targeted to be in theaters next January. Somehow. Quote:

Spoiler!
I don't like that the trailer seems to present the kid as the main character. It may just be the trailer and to get people's butts into theaters but it makes it look like a summer popcorn action flick |

The gunslinger character was based off eastwood, King's never made that a secret.

Not so much the Newman John Russel in terms of looks, but the way he played the part fits. |

Trailer looks like it would be really confusing to anyone who hasn't read the books.

I have never read or even heard of this series. It seems a bit confusing but in an interesting way. Movie audiences are definitely used to fantastical ideas and concepts at this point. To me it just looks like a super hero movie, but with reworked characters.

Huge fan of the books.
This trailer was a tad underwhelming. But I'm hoping it looked so obvious and generic-Hollywood-action-film to bring in new fans and not appeal to constant readers. Still, Idris is going to OWN this. He's absolutely amazing as Roland. Love any shot with him, especially where he's loading his gun. I still have a lot of optimism for the film. But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a tad underwhelmed by this first trailer. Still excited for the film, but... |

Me too, once it comes to the movie channels. The trailer shows it's not worth the theater hassle.

yeah, I enjoyed the books and there's no way I'm seeing this in theatres. just doesn't look like it'll be worth it, and books>movies or tv are rarely worth it. no thanks, please don't ruin one of king's really great projects like this for me.
