Nothing uniquely cool happened.
But... The best man in a bachelor party came up and asked for 8 flaming Dr. Peppers. I grabbed 8 glasses half full of beer, some Amarreto and 151 and started to make them only to have him rudely interrupt the process and profess,"You don't know what you are doing. I bartend, listen to me and do it right!" (I had been a bartender for 8 years at that point.....) So I put down the Amarreto and did exactly what he told me: fill a regular shot glass 3/4 full of Dr Pepper (facepalm), and top it off with 151. Well, the stupid **** went over to the party table and lit all 8 shots on fire. Everyone looked at him like he was reeruned, then watched as he took the flaming shot. His face caught on fire from the 151, the table full of guys jumped him to put the fire out by beating his face with their open palms. The next day he had blisters and a very red face during the wedding. Karma's a bitch you dumb****! |

Another time on a busy Friday I was working with another guy (kind of rare to have 2 bartenders).
A guy walked in who resembled a walking steroid. He was jacked every which way. Anyway, he was nice at the start, had maybe 2-3 rum and cokes and started trouble with some of the regulars. The guy I was working with and I went over to kick him out. My buddy said,"You got to go" to the roid freak. Dude stares dead into our eyes and says,"OH, YOU WANT TO GO?!" I look at Lance and nervously laughed. One of the waitress's boyfriend walked calmly up to him and talked him down. They went over to a table for about 10 minutes while I called the cops. Well, the boyfriend and the roid dude left together after a bit, and I found out later the boyfriend beat the ever-loving shit out of roid dude. The boyfriend was a local stud amateur boxer around Dodge. Roid dude got what he wanted. |

Chucked out 12 teeth, cut away about 6 mm of alveolar bone from the upper and lower jaw, cut two windows and did a bilateral sinus lift, placed 14 implants in about 2 1/2 hours.
Screw retained upper and lower hybrid dentures for same pt. Pretty cool day. |

I once had a temp job with the state of Illinois, worked in the massive basement of the Willard Ice building in Springfield, Il... it was totally reminiscent of the massive room of secret treasure from Indiana Jones
Huge cavernous basement that had tax files on what I assume is every citizen in the state of Illinois, and anyone who even does business in Illinois... my job was pulling various files for audit Got to see all kinds of interesting files, tons of Chicago sports figures from benchwarmers to superstars I spent a great deal of time pouring over Michael Jordans 1996? (memory is a bit foggy but thats close)... he made something like 89.6 million that year, his shoe contracts alone made a working man like me wanna cry Even nobody benchwarmers for the Bears and White Sox had very lucrative gear/shoe deals The pro and semi-pro gamblers were some of the most fascinating... there was a nurse from Peoria making roughly 45k a year at her job, but she was a Riverboat Queen Her winnings tickets equaled roughly 80-90k, and thats not including the high life comps, many of which were detailed on her winnings tickets... she made all of that almost exclusively on $1 and $5 slots She had to have dumped at least half of her job earnings into those slots to get there, but man talk about a return on investment |

Boring I know.
I did have a guy call me at my house a few months back. Had a tooth ache, yada yada, tried to pull it himself and it broke now its insufferable. I say "ok" I'll see you monday morning when the office opens, he says "I'll pay you an extra 15% and I'll pay cash" I replied, "i'll see you at the office in 30 mins". This is on a Sat night about 9 pm. When I go in after hours like that, I always carry my 9mm with me, just because I guess i'm a chicken. Anyway, I get there and there sits 3 guys who had obviously had a few cocktails and tried to pull their buddy's tooth. It broke right at the gum line and needed to be cut out. I warned him about bleeding and such since he'd been drinking, he said he couldn't stand the pain and had only had 3 beers, the other 2 guys confirmed so off we go. I take him back, numb him up and lay a flap (open the tissue up around the tooth, exposing bone and such so I can see). Once I do that, I take my drill and drill out a little bone around the tooth so I can elevate against the bone and pop the tooth out with an elevator (looks like a bent philips screwdriver). Once I start doing this i can feel someone over my shoulder watching, and I turn around and his 2 buddies are standing there watching. They ask if it's cool, I said, sure why not. While I'm going, one of the guys says to the other "Damn john, thats where we messed up, next time we need to use a screwdriver first" We had a laugh, I popped the tooth out and stitched him up, made him sit there till the bleeding stopped and let them go. Funny shit. |

I have been thoroughly trained and have performed many interviews to extract confessions from associates stealing, but one in particular was tough to crack. I eventually made her toss her cookies from the pressure the evidence and my tactics applied. I have never run so fast from a room in my life.
