It works if it's short enough. 2 or 3 feet is probably alright. 8 feet is too long.

Or you could not exhale into the hose. Either way it is only meant to buy some time.

Here’s something everyone should have in their camping gear, or at least something like it.
After you’ve been stomping around in the woods wash your arms, legs, hands and feet down with this stuff. I don’t know about you guys but poison ivy/oak is thick around here. I’ve gotten much better at recognizing it but I’ll still come down with it at least once a year. If it’s too late and you’ve got blistering rash move on to this stuff.

I’ve had it so bad it was more like a chemical burn than a rash, literally turn the effected skin purple, though I’ve been fortunate enough to not get it on my boys so I’ve got that going for me.

If you're on the couch and are having trouble breathing, don't bother with a hose. You're probably choking on a potato chip. Simply pat your belly until your dog jumps on you, sorta like the Heimlich menouver.
Pro tip: Chewing often prevents this. |

If you are making dinner for the whole family at home, make sure to let everyone else serve themselves, first. That way you have a good idea of how much to put on your plate without having to go back for seconds. In other words, "You had your chance and decided to skimp. I get the rest!!!"

Heres something I currently have on order, its truly an amazing little device, its rated to handle the filtration for 100,000 gallons of water, basically a lifetime supply, for $20-25.
Its not just great for backpackers, but it would be invaluable in a natural disaster where utility services might be affected, best $25 I ever spent. |

Heres something else on order, got two of these for $10, the YoYo Fisherman, better than a limb line because it will actively set the hook and even yank the fish out of the water depending on its size.
They're illegal to use in Illinois, but piss on Illinois, if I put a couple out but don't use a pole while those are in the water whats the diff? Just not gonna get caught. |

Have you used this yet? I was going to order one, but I think I'm going with the slightly larger Sawyer. Apparently, the Mini can take quite a long time to filter the water for a bottle or something. It's apparently very good on the end of a hydration bladder tube.

A small thing to remember: 100,000 gallons is a rough estimate. If you're constantly trying to filter murky water, it won't last that long. But neither will any other filter. I can't remember if you can back-wash these things, but they're so cheap I just figure I'll toss any that start to have issues and break out a new one.
