Bad news
SimplyRed started a thread about me not long ago. I thought I'd start one with the latest. I got very bad news today. My colon cancer got into my liver and the doc said it is stage 4. She said it can't be cured. Without treatment, I might last 10 weeks. Even with chemo, the best I could hope for is maybe 3 years. I'm scheduled to have a port put in tomorrow, Tuesday, at 1 pm. They start me on 3 types of chemo on Thursday.

During my 5 night hospital stay, I had one night crew nurse who started off a bit distant, but she became very nice and helpful to me after a few visits. Maybe it was because I was low maintenance? There was once when I hit the call button when my IV bag ran out and the blasted thing started beeping loudly. It took about 20 minutes before someone came in and shut it up. I was 2 minutes away from getting up and taking it into the hall with me, but then I'd have disturbed the other patients. When someone finally came, she turned the volume down on the IV tower. I slapped my forehead since it never occurred to me to look for volume control.

Medication had a lot to do with it, morphine pump, couldn't hit the button fast enough. As soon as I got on Tylenol 3 with codeine, life was good.

I am off to a good start on my 7th chemo treatment. The blood draw was first, as usual, and two of the nurses came tothe one tending me and said to be careful since I tend to pass out. I swear, a guy passes out 1.75 times out of 8 and they won't let him live it down! My port area was still tender but the needle was not bad at all. So now I am 1.75 out of 9 on passing out. As I left the room, the two nurses sarcastically asked if I was okay and not fainting. I staggered side to side and they said that was not funny. I told them if they mess with me, then I mess back!

Next, I saw the doc and she said my blood test showed good numbers all around, especially my white cell count. I also caught a break and got my treatment that was set for the 31st to the 6th. Now I can have a Russian imperial stout on NYE after all! My doc even said that was okay. I'd have had one anyhow, but she didn't need to know that. My liver is still 100% functional, so why not, right?

Not bad. In a clinical trial now. Vaccine. 2nd round of chemo tomorrow. Only 5 days every 4 weeks. The vaccine is once a month.

I hope you are not having many side effects and they are minor. I'm still doing three types of chemo at once, and have the pump with the folfox or whatever they call it for 46 hours. At least it is a quick visit to get the thing taken off of me on Friday, then I don't have to be careful of getting the plastic tube caught on stuff as I move around.

Other than mild nausea and hairloss, I'm good.

Of course, that could be side effects from Radiation. I don't know.
