I'm wondering if it's not statistically safer to ride it out. How many highway deaths occur during all these panic induced evacuations? Unless you live in a trailer as far as wind damage goes odds are the worst you'll get is some damage to your roof. I've not seen houses shredded in hurricanes like what you see in a tornado, and I went thru a couple of hits in south TX growing up. Considering their size, not many deaths either.
