Volq velocity continues to surprise me. He's sitting 94-95 pretty consistently. I'd love to see his PitchFX data to see if that's the real Volq or not

Edit: Looks like it's the same. 93.8 avg so far vs 93.3 last year and 93.4 for his career. Didn't know he threw that hard

His average sinker is sitting right around 93, which is what pitchfx shows for him traditionally.

He's always had plus stuff. Just had shitty control. His ability to throw that curve for a strike/show-me pitch is huge.

It's crazy he's only throwing a straight FB about 30% of the time. He really relies on the breaking stuff. Maybe that's why he walked so many guys? I wonder why he doesn't throw the straight FB more with that type of velocity?

Mechanical issues and inability to command a sinker that moves that much. He also traditionally has not thrown his curve for strikes, and he needs that pitch to give hitters a different look.
