And you wonder where I got the idea for the "Hootie Double-Down"

At least you finally buckled on the "Oscar Tavares for Shields & Holland" doozy you dropped on the board. (It did take the guy dying but progress is hard with a drunken fool like you)

St. Louis would have never given us the #2 prospect in baseball for 1/2 season of Shields and 2.5 seasons of Holland.

Would have been a total steal for us, which is why this board's Cardinal fans laughed it off

but nice try, guy

and I would certainly trade Wade Davis straight up for Jake Odorizzi regardless of how much I love Wade Davis

I wouldn't count on it. They'll probably be too busy talking about A-Rod's retirement.

Meh. The Cardinals needed a starting pitcher and desperately needed a guy who could close a game out (as evidenced by their playoff ousting and Rosenthal falling apart) ... it wasn't a stupid trade. The A's gave Addison Russell for 1/2 season of Jeff "overrated" Samardzija. However, if the Cardinals presented that offer to us, it would have been a no-brainer.

Look, Ned's biggest weakness has always been bullpen management. So believe me, I love having a bullpen full of Cyborgs that even Ned can't **** up + Frasor + Hochevar.

But, as fun as it is to watch, it's almost overkill

Taveras was going to be a star.

Just so I follow: the Cards would never have done it, and their fans allblaughed at it, but it wasn't a bad trade idea.

Then why would the Cards have never done it?

They wouldn't have done it because we would have ripped them off, but it would have been great for us.

We would have turned a top 5 prospect and Holland into 1.5 years of James Shields and a top 5 prospect. Obviously a lot of crazy shit happened since then, but it would have been a great move for us at the time.

the Cards shouldn't have done it ... I threw out a trade offer because I didn't think the Royals had a chance in hell of making the playoffs around the trade deadline last year that would have netted us a top 5 prospect to see what people thought about it

you're the one that keeps bringing it up as some kind of "ha ha" moment, I guess

Normally, I would have thought Taveras was untouchable ... but I had just seen the A's give up Addison Russell for Jeff Samardzija and I had seen more than enough out of Wade Davis to believe Holland had become the ultimate luxury rather than a total necessity

now that I've seen what we are with those Cyborgs I probably wouldn't even trade Wade Davis straight up for Taveras at this point (not because he's dead) because I think Wade wins more games for this club and there is no reason this team isn't a WS frontrunner if we stay healthy

same reason I wouldn't entertain any offers for Dyson, either (and he doesn't even play)

"Would've been a total steal for us"

"It wasn't a stupid trade"

In your mind, this actually makes sense.
