Bad news
SimplyRed started a thread about me not long ago. I thought I'd start one with the latest. I got very bad news today. My colon cancer got into my liver and the doc said it is stage 4. She said it can't be cured. Without treatment, I might last 10 weeks. Even with chemo, the best I could hope for is maybe 3 years. I'm scheduled to have a port put in tomorrow, Tuesday, at 1 pm. They start me on 3 types of chemo on Thursday.

I have no new information yet. It did go smoothly today and they mercifully shaved me where leads had to be attached. My IV was tricky as my left elbow bend would have none of it and the nurse took the needle out. They ended up putting one in the back of my right hand, which I found most uncomfortable. It's still very sore and will probably bruise.

Yep, my hand did bruise and there is a knot, too. It feels about like I got hit with a big stick on the back of my hand. They shaved my hand, half of my chest and some of my back today. I almost feel like a metrosexual! The pain stuff wore off and I am feeling it now. There is pain where the tube goes from the port to my artery, which I really feel when I yawn. I hope I don't have to sneeze! I took an Aleve earlier, but I think once I get in bed and fall asleep, as long as I don't move around much, tomorrow should be a lot better for me. I'm already hungry since I had to skip lunch and have a light breakfast, so I am thinking of a big feast in the morning. I am not sure if it will be French toast, egg and Havarti sammiches, or what, but I'll eat a lot no matter what I go with. Everything I handle just has to be under 5 lbs.

I've had hand IVs on several occasions and they're not too bad.

I remember once, when I had a staph infection, the nurse asked me not to lower my arm. I gestured "What?!?" thus lowering my arm. Blood squirted across the room. She was so pissed, she left me to attach the tubing.

I seriously thought I was going to die because there were bubbles in the tubing.

I hope that bitch gets the same caring treatment I got from her when she's in dire need.

BTW - I'd go with the egg and Havarti sammiches for breakfast. That sounds yummy.

I did drink water the night before, but was told to not eat or drink 6 hours prior to the procedure.

Most of the nurses I have dealt with since this cancer crap started have been good and some were even terrific. You can tell when they honestly care about how you are doing and it makes a huge difference. If I ever get one like the one you described, I'll be making sure she doesn't tend to me again!
