I DEFINITELY don't see a way that could structure a deal to get Revis to bite. He has no history with Reid or with Missouri. He's the #1 CB in the league coming off a Super Bowl championship.

That dude is going to get paid, paid up front and paid HUGE. Too much mandatory spending. As foolhardy as I think the Maclin signing might be, a Revis signing would be flat out ****ing insane. We'll have to gut this team by 2018 if that happens.
Maybe Revis likes Sutton.

The reality is that first round picks guarantee absolutely nothing. It's as likely if not more likely you're giving up Justin Houston for Jon Baldwin and Eric Fisher, or Glenn Dorsey and Tyson Jackson, than it is you're giving him up for Eric Berry and Dontari Poe.

I'm not conservative by nature - hell I've been calling for a high pick young QB for the last fifteen years - but the reality is that sometimes the bird in hand really is worth two in the bush. And I think this is one of those situations.
I don't necessarily disagree with you but we invested a metric-shit-ton of money in the Defense and neglected the offense and we all saw how that turned out.

Houston - $14M
Hali - $12M
Berry - $8M
SSmith - $8M
Devito - $5.5M
DJ - $5M
Poe - $4M
Bailey - $3M
Ford - $1.8M

9 of the top 15 salaries are on the Defense

Granted a few of those players have been released already, but the point being you can't continually neglect the offense and expect the world class defense to bring home the championship.

Well.....something has to happen between today and tomorrow because there is no way that Hali's paycut is taking care of Houston's tag AND Maclin's contract.

do I think the Chiefs land Revis? No.

do I think maybe he'd be enticed with our scheme? Maybe.

I said before last year I thought the Chiefs were trying to set themselves up to compete in 2015 ... signing Maclin and Revis with all of those picks would pretty much mean Dorsey/Reid thinks this team is ready to take down Denver and actually compete for something meaningful.

I don't get to invested in this stuff anymore, though.

Once Berry and Devito are gone, it will be 7 of the top 14.

That's a double edged blade, and actually the reason for my 'vermeil flavor' comment in my last post. I'm worried we're seeing the beginning of a bunch of moves to stack everything around Alex Smith, with Houston the first sacrifice on defense.

It is an offensive league, no question there, but we can't go back to the kind of team we were in the early '00s, either. The teams that win built around offense are able to do it because they have an elite QB. Whereas we don't appear to even have a Trent Green at this point, much less a Tom Brady.

Now this is just one move, so there's no real evidence it's heading that way. It's just a concern I have. We'll need to see how the rest of free agency and the draft play out.

Balance is the key...

Absolutely - I love how everyone wants us to have an elite defense and a mediocre offense (or run Charles ever other play) ... I'm like do you not remember the late 80's, early 90's when we had an awesome defense and Steve DeBerg throwing to JJ Birdin, Robb Thomas, Emile Harry and Stephone Paige? The days when our defense would hold it close, just for the offense to finish the 4th quarter with 4 three and outs? No thanks lol

Nothing in Andy Reid's history would make you think he's a guy comfortable with martyball. His hand has been forced the last couple of seasons - that's not who he is. Hence my concern.

If Im the Chiefs, I'm drafting OL heavily. I'm using 1st, 2nd, 3rd and even 4th round picks to draft tackles, guards and/or centers.

It'd sure be nice to get a #2 WR in here but I do think we have a fair amount of weapons on offense now in Maclin, Charles, Davis and Kelce.

I just don't want to see another dogshit approach towards addressing the Oline. Banking on flyers and late round picks like Mcglynn, Fulton and Harris was just unacceptable and didn't cut it. Last year Dorsey basically patchworked one of the most important units on the team and it showed. We cannot go into the season with a tackle who status towards being a good player remains questionable and with a project player at center. To better increase our chances of landing better quality Oline players at a lower cost, there is no better way then the draft.

But in all honesty, they should do that. I'm interested in seeing the team putting Alex Smith in a better position to succeed.
