Didn't realize Bowe has better career stats than Maclin. And Bowe is getting run out of town, weird.

$11 million isn't that much different than what we were paying Bowe.
If he fits the offense, I'm down with paying that much for a flagship in our fleet of WRs |

Career numbers being "Better" is a relative term, especially when you compare Maclin's numbers last year against Bowe. Maclin has also missed the equivalent of almost 2 seasons because of injuries, so that IS a concern going forward. But Bowe put up most of his numbers in the early part of his career and seems to be trending downward, but Maclin seems to be on the upswing with his big year last year and he still is only 26.
However, 11 million a year isn't as 'risky' as it used to be in today's modern salary cap era. Hell, the Chiefs are getting out from under a huge FA WR contract in Bowe's with minimal damage to the cap only 2 years later. If Maclin has injury issues and doesn't work, you can probably get out of it in a couple years too. All that being said, would I rather just re-sign Rodney Hudson for 9 mil. a year and throw out the same garbage at WR that we had last year and hope it gets better? No, I'd rather the Chiefs take a risk and try something new. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work. But at least they will have tried something different. |
