USA Today predicts Chiefs at 4-12 for 2014

I could see it happening but really 6-8 wins seems pretty doable.

AFC West

Broncos 12-4 (2): Could be better than 2013 team even if wins and offensive output dip. But schedule is murderous.

Chargers 8-8: Last year's schedule allowed late-season charge. This year's could easily produce late-season slide.

Chiefs 4-12: Tight salary cap meant crippling free agent defections, and they didn't sufficiently reload in draft.

Raiders 3-13: Best thing influx of over-the-hill vets can do is change culture. Carr, Mack promise brighter days ahead.

The 4-12 doesn't lead to a better path. KC had 4-2-4 wins for a stretch a few years ago. Nothing became of it. You need to accumulate draft picks and hit on 3-4 guys per draft and keep them.

I really like what I've seen from Kelce. Feel really good about him thus far. It's a shame that Catapano got sick bc I think he can be a nice addition to this DL.

The core of the team came from that stretch. Going 2-14 was the best thing that ever happened to this team because that draft class was ****ing awesome.

We didn't win anything because we didn't have a QB. And now that draft class has been WASTED.

DRAFT A QUARTERBACK.

On top of that, it has a lot to do with a complete lack of consistency and zero commitment towards developing a QB. The 4-2-4 you mentioned isn't really about biting the bullet... it was about sucking for two years, then having a complete regime change/coach change/new retread QB. Then when all of that wen to shit, they did the same thing.

I was all for flushing Herm, and they obviously had to flush Pioli and that regime, but you can't draft well for a particular system and keep players if that system changes every few years. Eventually you have to stick out a few bad years and stay committed to what you're doing, instead of bringing in a new coach and a new retread to get back to mediocrity asap.

Absolutely THIS.

Without yet playing the Colts in the playoffs last season, be honest...

How many of you (that actually wanted the team to win games) were enjoying the season and the team success as the weeks progressed? and then compare how much fun the prior 2-14 season was.

You play to win games and have a chance to win it all. If that's not what you are all about? then you are a quitter, a coward, or simply a masochist.

The football season is a journey that's here for our amusement. Winning as many games as possible sure as hell makes the ride and all of the weeks in between more enjoyable.

Some folks just can't handle getting their hopes up and then being let down. So they bring nothing but pessimism and pseudo apathy in order to cushion the blow of defeat... and they wrap it in a colorful package called "realism." That's a real chicken-shit mentality, IMO... but to each their own.

There was absolutely nothing enjoyable when it became obvious that KC couldn't beat a team with quarterback that deserved to play in the NFL.

Some of us don't get our hopes up anymore, nor are we let down.

That's the reason why there's no difference between last year and the year before. Neither of them ended with a Super Bowl, or even a playoff victory.

See, some of us have been a fan for going on 30 years or even more. We've already had our amusement. We've already had our hopes up and we've already been let down. MANY times.

There's nothing chickenshit about it. There's just nothing left to root for short of winning it all. Everything else has already been done.

Don't humor the dual fan. Of course he enjoyed the first year watching his "new team" play.

oh, it became obvious? really? Didn't they beat the "GREAT" Tony Romo early in the year? How bout the "GREAT" Eli Manning Giants? They damn near beat the Colts and the "GREAT" Andrew Luck in the end, if the defense could make ONE stop. They nearly beat the Chargers and the "GREAT" Phillip Rivers, and did that with backups. They were respectable at least against the Peyton Broncos, but all knew those games would be a true struggle.

... and all of this was in a year 1 scheme.

... but it was obvious that they had no chance against opponents with a quarterback that deserved to play in the NFL.

It's not nearly that shallow of an argument. Nobody wants them to go 2-14, but I sure as hell would rather them go 2-14 while staying committed to young/developing talent and a specific system than try to stop gap and go 8-8/9-7.... since, you know, they've been doing that for thirty years with nothing to show for it.

And the kicker is there's not even a guarantee that you'll be 2-14 or 4-12 for even one year if you commit to actually developing a QB and sticking with a system for more than 3 years, because the league is so mediocre.

They're no better than the Raiders when it comes to player and personnel turnover in the past several years. And of course, if they do go 4-12 this year, some people will cry about how "it's not working"...

I don't believe the apathy you and others put forth as genuine. It's merely a weak and transparent "front" that you somehow imagine saves face for putting any energy into the Chiefs.

It's like that friend that gets shockingly dumped by a GF after years. He turns to the guys and says, "good riddance, I was ready to be free anyway!" < sniffle sniffle >

Yeah..... riiiiiiiiiiigggggghhhhhht.

but to the quote above... to win it all, you have to get to the playoffs. After that, it's anyone's trophy to win.

Including Tait in that list is pretty ****ing dumb.
