*.* NEW- 2014 General Fitness Thread *.*
I guess we filled up the old one... http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=280149
Welcome to 2014! Now get your ass in top physical condition! No one else started it so here it is! **From the 2013 Thread** If you want to get back into lifting, or need a new lifting routine, START HERE: http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wi...inner_Programs If you have questions about the SS programs, look here: http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ Keep in mind that you're a novice lifter for a longer period of time than you think you are. Novice lifting can last anywhere from a few months to a year or two, depending on how hard you hit the weights and where you started. Once you've reached the point where you don't make regular progress on the SS program, you are ready to move on to the intermediate stage, which can last you for a good number of years. Find it HERE: http://madcow.hostzi.com/5x5_Program/Linear_5x5.htm If you're a very advanced lifter (many, many years of CONSISTENT weight training), then there are lot of programs out there, and which one you pick is simply a matter of preference. If you're really that advanced, you should know what works for you and what doesn't by this point. |

We're approaching the end of the calendar year... anyone still on track to reach your fitness goals for 2014 and/or set any personal records? I know Luv is working up her deadlift. Anyone else?

I was trying to get down to around 200 started dieting end of August. That's not going to happen by the end of the year but i'm almost to 230. Which isn't bad considering where I started.

Also try using Fat Grips. They increase the surface area that the force is applied to, so it might not irritate that area of your hand. Not on track for any of my fitness goals. Just trying to maintain a somewhat healthy diet, and try to get a bit stronger each week while being the best parent & husband that I can be. I thought I would have more time to train, but with 2 little ones now, training comes in spurts. |

False grip works. I'm just afraid of the bar slipping forward out of my hands.

I'm posting this here as a form public accountability, support, and because there isn't a weight loss thread since 2013. I have kind of a long story, so bear with me. tl;dr at the bottom.
Back in April when I was hospitalized with pneumonia, the bit of info I didn't share previously is the pneumonia caused renal failure. I've had kidney troubles in the past, and pneumonia knocked them out. Docs put me on temporary dialysis hoping that would give them enough of a rest to heal, but they didn't. So from April to July I was on hemodialysis three days a week. In July, I transitioned to peritoneal dialysis, which allows me to do it at home while I'm sleeping. However, PD has its own challenges, including that the fluids I use for dialysis are sugar based. So every day, all day, I have 2L of 1.5-2.5 percent dextrose solution in my peritoneal cavity, meaning without eating anything, I absorb 200-500 extra calories every day. Because the dialysis washes protein out of my system, I have to get 10+ ounces of high quality protein daily, as well as 3000+ mg of potassium every day, while limiting phosphorus to under 2000 mg daily. I also have a fluid restriction of around 2500 mL. I've done very well for the past four months maintaining my weight. But now I'm being evaluated for a kidney transplant, and while I'm only a couple pounds over their threshold for transplant evaluation, they're going to evaluate me anyway. But before I can get activated on the list, I need to lose 38 pounds or more. It's going to be 5-7 years before they'd evaluate me anyway. But the dialysis will make it more difficult than it would be otherwise. I can't lift weights - because of the added pressure from the fluid in my peritoneal cavity, weight lifting puts me at higher risk of a hernia. My weight restriction is 15 pounds. This will mostly be changing eating habits to more lean proteins and light cardio (severe asthma is my biggest hurdle with cardio). I'm open to suggestion. I'm 5'10", 282. I'm open to suggestions. Please don't tell me "calories in vs. calories out," because while the math is sound, it's just not that simple for me. I'm very frustrated already, and that doesn't help me. tl;dr: I'm a fatass, and I need to lose 40 pounds through diet and light cardio. I'll check in on whatever slow progress I make. |

In the end it IS that simple. The thing is that you need to figure out how many calories you are using in a day. Meticulously count your calories and evaluate your intake based on that count. Since it sounds like you can't do much cardio, you are going to have to be extra tight on your food choices and you have the added obstacle of your nutrient requirements and restrictions. It sounds like you need a nutritionist/training coach to help you get this thing started and get organized with a real plan.

What part of "please don't do that" wasn't clear? I even asked nicely. This isn't helpful. Kindly **** off.

It's going to take some work and experimentation to figure out how much you need. With your special requirements, it's going to be extra challenging. I really recommend getting with a nutritionist/coach in person to get this thing nailed down in the beginning.

Like I said, I'm not sure of your schedule with the solution so that will make a difference. Is it once a day? 4 times a day? It would probably be advisable to avoid fatty foods following the solution administration.
