Unfortunately for Alex, that Indy game is an outlier when it comes to his career. It's his best game out of a group of some above average games, a LOT of very average games, and some piss poor games in his career.

It would take too much effort to find his "median" game, but considering he's started 93 games including playoffs - he's only thrown for over 200 yards (low benchmark) 43 times. Not even half. So his median game is probably around 185-190 yards passing.

That's about as average as you get.
Alex's median game:

17/29
194 yards
1 TD
0 INT

This place has lost its middle ground and with it, any semblance of realistic, balanced football discussion.

Couldn't agree more. And it has been sad to see. It's the reason I have taken on a lurker status over the past year vs a regular poster. And the few times I have strayed from lurker to poster, I have found myself wondering why I didn't just stay lurking.

I found I really enjoyed last season by participating less here, and just skimming through things. And, I am really looking forward to this season as well, just will be lurking like last season, 'cause of the haters going to hate, no matter what happens during the game.

Miss the old days of civil discussion, but it is what it is.

...It's up to someone like Smith to convert a goddamn first down in 4 possessions to make up for their deficiencies. Otherwise the job doesn't get done.
I've read this several times now, so it is apparently becoming believed that there was a stretch of 4 possessions in the 2nd half of the game in which the Chiefs went 3 and out and that it was Smith's poor second half play that stalled those drives. It simply isn't even remotely true.

The Chiefs only had 3 possessions all game that went 3 and out and they are as follows:

- End of the first half. Chiefs take over with .21 seconds on the clock. Run 2 garbage plays and one hail Mary and then head to the locker room.

- 3rd possession of second half. 1st and 2nd downs were running plays for short yardage. On 3rd down, Smith throws a perfect pass to Bowe, north of the line to gain, which is dropped. Looked like there may have been contact, but no call. You can't hang that possession on Smith.

- 4th possession of second half. 1st - Smith completes a short pass, 2nd - run gets stuffed, 3rd - a designed screen play that gets blown up - Davis doesn't make it out to the flat. You can't hang that possession on Smith.

The 1st possession of the second half ended with a TD. The 2nd, 5th, and 7th possessions of the second half, the Chiefs gained 2 first downs in each of those possessions. On the 6th possession they gained 3 first downs. And I don't need to point out that had Bowe pointed his toe, we'd have had at least 3 1st downs in the 7th possession as well and been well within field goal range to win the game. Of those 9 second half 1st downs, 8 of them Smith was directly responsible for, either throwing for the 1st down, or running for it. The 1st down I don't give him credit for was a pass behind the LOS to Davis that went for a first.

There are 2 possessions in the game that I believe you can criticize Smith for. The second possession of the second half in which he fumbled, and the 5th possession in which he missed Gray down the sidelines. Gray says that he hesitated and it was on him, but I accept that people want to hang that on Smith. That's fine.

The myth that we had 4 3-and-outs in a row is just false. We had 2 back to back, neither of which are on Smith, and that was when the play calling was clearly conservative with the goal simply to not give up any big plays and run the clock.

The influx of trolls from other fan bases pimping players/front office is the main reason. Normal homerism is fine to a degree, which has always been on here which generally led to a good debate for the most part, but you add toxic additions which aren't even Chiefs fans it lowered the entire board.

The real probem is that a large group of posters argue the poster rather than debate the subject.

Agreed. Too many times a poster tries to make an argument, and is subsequently called a dumbass.

How much of Alex Smith's lack of come from behind wins, especially in the past three years have to do with the fact that uh, he's usually not trailing?

Which in itself is odd. I came here in support of Alex Smith, and some of the same posters that torch me for that and consider me a troll, welcome with open arms someone like Kaepernick who is actually a troll but just happens to support the status quo.

Case and point. Kaepernick is a Dumbass with an agenda. He is a troll. He says right here how much he is glad alex is gone so they don't have to talk about him and yet his opinion is respected while he is here taking about him.

The reason that I MYSELF, discredit a some of Alex's comeback wins is because more often than not, Alex's abysmal play had a lot to do with the reason the 49ers/Chiefs were trailing to begin with (i.e. his 2011 comebacks against the Lions, Bengals, Seahawks, etc.)

If he even played average football, a comeback would not have been needed. And this is not even really digging into HOW the comebacks happened.

I dunno what assumptions you are making with this. The 'status quo' is not that Alex Smith sucks. So on that count, no, he does not represent the status quo.

Im just saying the dude predicted to the T how Alex Smith would affect the board, and he has been right.
