They say Denk had the best vision of any ump in baseball. He had 20/20 vision till his death.

"Looks like he's out."
"From that angle, let's take a look from this one. Oh, yes."
"Foot right on top of the bag..."
"I don't think there's any doubt about it."

Hmmm, I think Don might've missed one there.
So, they don't go back and change the record books, do they?
They don't?
Cool.

The Cubs and Royals have more recent ones so who is really clinging to ancient history here?

Don was infamous for exposing Cardinals fans as the true pieces of reeruned shit that they were. He received more death threats than Whitey Herzog who coached his team to an 11-0 ass whooping and was ejected in the process of the deciding game in the series. Yet, Don got more death threats.

Stay classy Cards fans…

Denkinger made one of the worst calls in World Series history.

He was the embodiment of why instant replay was instituted.

Having said that, great ball clubs have to overcome bad calls. The Royals won that World Series, not because of Denkinger, but because they imploded in reaction to him.

I love the Cards. But I hate the excuses. Catch the ball, Jack, and this isn't even a discussion.

Or how about showing up for game seven, Andujar. Geez.

I could go on. Fact is Congrats KC. You won a WS.

But the one in 15 was cooler

IMO, Denkinger missed the call because the toss from Jack Clark to Worrell was awkwardly high and Worrell having to reach for it caused Denkinger to watch the catch instead of watching foot on bag and after seeing catch and then looking for foot on bag, Orta had touched bag by then.

If Jack Clark had not made such a clumsy ass toss to Worrell, Denkinger would have gotten it right.

Orta was thrown out at 3B anyway on a failed sac bunt.

The only out The Loo recorded that inning

His name will live on because every time I visit a St.Louis Starbucks I’m giving the barista my order as Don Denkinger and so should every Royals fan.

I agree. Denkinger realized he wouldn't be able to listen for the ball hitting the glove on that play, with the crowd noise and the soft throw being off. If the ump can rely on hearing the ball arriving to the glove, he can focus more of his vision on the baserunner's foot.

Here's a video of the play

Here's a New York Times article about missed calls at first.
