Veach killed this draft

Mecole Hardman
Juan Thornhill
Khalen Saunders
Rashad Fenton
Darwin Thompson
Nick Allegretti

Man what a ****ing great draft this appears to be. The top 4 players have been really good and have shown potential the last few games.

I did not expect Saunders or Fenton to be ready this year but here they are playing well against good QB’s.

Major props to Veach. This really makes up for last years horrible draft

There was never a good reason to criticize Veach.

Not to mention, we very likely don’t have Mahomes without Veach. That alone should earn him at least a few years of good will.

Let me tell ya what Veach (and Andy obviously) deserve massive credit for.

They saw that the defense needed more than an infusion of talent. More than a new loaded coaching staff. They needed a whole new attitude and identity. They needed players who wouldn’t be content as the ‘little brother’ to Patrick and the offense.

And with that, in one offseason they burned the unit to the ground and built it back up with a bunch of badass MFers who have set the standard for the defense VERY high. And thus, here we are.

It is and will always be Overreaction Planet. You just gotta roll with the punches because the narrative can shift from week to week. The only thing that matters for this team and their storyline will be how their last game in the playoffs ends. Everything else will be ignored for the entire offseason.

They tried to do it the season before. Veach preached all about bringing in players with the right attitude. Just took the failure of the 2018 Chiefs defense to realize they really needed to tear it down and they absolutely did that.

I think we forget the "anyone but Sutton" mantra.

We got a hell of a DC! Criticized for being a Andy Buddy hire but here we are, better than most of us hoped to be in the upper half of defenses. Possibly one of the TOP tier defenses going into the playoffs.

Thank You Andy, Thank you Mr. Veach and Thank You Mr. Spagnoulo!

GO CHIEFS!!

I'll never understand the "Andy buddy" thing.

Andy Reid has been in the NFL for like 30 years. He's been a head coach for like 20 years.

He's a well liked and well respected coach. ****ing everybody's his buddy.

His coaching tree is more successful than just about any other coach that's still active.

I'll take his buddies any old time.

Yeah, Hitchens and Speaks were Veach’s first attempt at “change.” LOL

I know I've said it before, but I really believe it was a two year process.

I truly believe that they wanted to leave the defense in place as they were handing the keys of the offense to a second year QB.

Better to have SOME continuity. Something stable in case the kid struggled.

I think the plan was to clean house in 2019 on that side, but they had some contracts that they really couldn't get out from under in 2018.

I just think they were playing a longer game than people are giving them credit for. I think it's totally logical though.

Which really wasn’t completely Veach’s fault.

-Berry pretty much quit on us
-Houston was not the right leader-had to be motivated by a JAG
-Hitchens was in a system he never played in before and clearly wasn’t for him

The coaching sucked, the players quit and a completely makeover was needed. Props to Andy for recommending Spags, props to Veach for acquiring players but holy shit...

Major MAJOR props to Spags. He brought in some damn good coaches and it’s showed. He wanted HB and Clark. He has used guys brilliantly in multiple facets and has put players in positions to succeed.

This is Andy Reid’s team, but this year is not like the others. Spags has been the best coach on this team and he should get a ****ing medal for what he’s done.

I mean c’mon. We lead the league in sacks and got rid of BOTH edge rushers and we are better overall.

That alone is unbelievable

Hitchens has been better this season.

And Speaks, while so many love to dog on him-we don't know what he is.

Remember how everyone said Kpass was a wasted pick? Now he looks pretty good, a solid part of the rotation.

Who's to say Speaks wouldn't be had he been able to play?

Who's to say he won't play well next year when he comes back?

Given what Spags and Daly have done this year, I wouldn't bet against it.

all true and also: letting both of those edge rushers was the RIGHT decision.

Ford has shown he's what we thought he was: a situational pass rusher. Houston has been more of the same guy he was here on his last contract. Good, but not great.

what I like about Veach is that he's not afraid to make a mistake.

He hasn't been perfect, but he's been relentless, and he's willing to take risks.

None of that 'play it safe' bullshit. That's how you end up with Trubisky.

Remember what a REACH all the talking heads (and a bunch of you) said Hardman was?

Nah. Veach was betting on the CEILING not the floor.

We have no idea on Speaks yet. And based on the improvement of K-pass, I think we need to see what he can do this year before we write the book on him.

He was playing out of position and didn’t look horrible as a rookie. I won’t be surprised if the is a solid to good DL before it’s all done.

We wrote off a lot of players that are now playing well. I am still holding off judgement on the Speaks pick.
