I think it has been about eight years since we got rid of the land line. Don't miss it at all. It was mostly for solicitors to bother us anyway.

Both, part of the triple play package from Comcast. We have had the same number for the past 17 years. It's a good catch all for when I don't want to give out my cell number.

I telework when I'm not on the road, so before I setup my SOHO and went with a work handset I used Ooma. Love it! We all use our cell phones from time to time, but when you're on the phone 6+ hours a day, a cell phone gets goofy. And Ooma's price is fine, even with a 2nd line and the added bells. It's $13 a month, and that's a drop in the buck compared to cell plans.
And now I find myself using both Ooma and the work handset when I have more than one call to be on. |

There is a thread why we don't have a land line. We did by necessity. When we moved, the local phone company had not run lines in our development. Almost a year later-they still have not run lines.
We went to all mobile. It is a bit of a pain. I have to take that damn phone with me everywhere.

I still have a land line at home, four at work, and my pop's number he had since I was about three. He always kept it because like someone else said there were a ton of kids that always knew if they needed something they could call it. I still have the house for a minute so I've kept the number and just transfer the calls here. I have a hippie sister who has been gone basically since she was 15, she checks in on it every once in a while too.
When the house goes im just gonna use my buddy's mom's house and keep the number still. I was surprised how much traffic it still got, old friends checking in with my pops and such. |

Have something similar with a Time Warner bundle that was somehow cheaper than to remove it. Hasn't left the box.

My younger grandkids couldn't figure how to answer our phones. Just lifting the receiver didn't make sense to them.
And when we showed them how to use the rotating dial, they thought it was some weird novelty. One of ours was made in the 1940's and weighs about 10 lbs. Built to last. My wife has a track phone for when we travel. We buy minutes every year and rarely use it so we have about a zillion minutes on it. They even sent us a new flip phone a few months ago because they said our original one, which we've had for many years, won't work any longer. BTW, my landline is free. As in no charge. That's the main reason we keep it. We use call blocking to block about 95% of the junk calls. Works for us.
