Is there any way to escape this FanDuel/Draft Kings onslaught?

Holy shit, every other commercial yesterday was FanDuel/Draft Kings. Every other radio commercial is the same way. HOW MANY DIFFERENT PROMO CODES CAN THEY POSSIBLY HAVE THAT ALL GIVE YOU THE EXACT SAME DISCOUNT?!

Who is funding this stuff? They must be spending millions on top of millions for this promotional push.

Interesting. So you're saying that they're reporting gross winnings instead of net? That's a huge difference. If I stuff $1 million in a slot machine and get back $950,000, I didn't win $950,000.

The whole thing seems fishy. Those ads have guys saying that they won $1 million, and the only way that's possible is if they're the only winners and everyone else in the country is losing $100 or so. Unless of course they're reporting gross instead of net, which seems quite dishonest.

I wish that place would go out of business. I'd rather see beer ads.

The internet gambling law that was passed a few years ago basically had a specific carve-out for fantasy football-type games. A couple of the big factors are that the players exercise some "knowledge and skill" and that the final scores of the real games aren't relevant. Fantasy football was already huge, but the legality (if money was at stake) was a bit questionable. It shouldn't have been that hard to predict it would get even bigger after they essentially gave it an 'OK' from the fed govt.

they are reporting, along the lines, of this:

"Last year we paid out over a billion dollars!"

which, loosely, is true

They host tournaments ... for instance, they had a $1,000,000 to 1st place in a $25 220,000 entry tournament that also paid out 40,000 spots (top 20%) ... it doesn't matter who they pay, they make money specifically off the rake.

their rake is generally 10% ... if you play heads up against Joe Schmo for $25 and win ... they'll "pay you out" $45 total dollars. They keep $5 for hosting, return your entry fee, and give you $20 from Joe Schmo.

Some of those guys probably really did win $1,000,000. If you're lucky enough to put in 1 entry and win 1st place out of 220,000+ people ... that's quite a return on your $25 ...

however, 9 times out of 10, the guys who are winning the big money in those huge tournaments are entering at least 50-100 times. So you're sitting at the table to win $1,000,000 with 1 entry ($25) while some people are putting in $2500 and making off the wall lineups and mixing and matching all sorts of different lineups with pristine research and are winning most of the big money.

50-100 entry's is a guess, too. Some guys could be putting in even more than that. A guy named McJester just ****ing owns the NBA GPP's using this strategy. But they are truly professionals.

Joe Schmo should not be spending meaningful money on these websites. They will lose.

so FanDuel truly does not care who wins ... they make their money by getting as many people in the world to sign up and play for as much money as they can get them to play for ... they would benefit 0% from the fish never winning ...

and the promo codes are hilarious ... you know how much money you'd have to put in play from them to release $200 in bonus money (they release $1 into your account per $25 played)?

You'll have to put $5000 in play to fully receive your promo bonus of $200.

There are, however, single entry tournaments.

But, of course they're not nearly paying out as much as the multi-entry tournaments.

While it wasn't a huge win I did enter a $2 NFL tourney last December on Fanduel and won $700 so some of us peeons are winning a little.

because they lose nothing to match your bonus ... you play $25, they take $2.5 in rake from your $25, and then repay you $1 ... so they're still making $1.50 every time they release $1 of your $200 bonus

Sirius/XM Fantasy Sports channel had a million dollar NFL winner on last season and he had entered 50 $25 teams,he even admitted on air that his winning team was copied from a random FF site.

still a healthy R.O.I. but the people entering 1 $25 entry to "win $1M dollars!" are playing against a loaded deck

you'd literally need to stumble into the perfect fantasy lineup ...

I usually enter 4 per week ... I finished like 17th once and every 0.1 points would win you another $1000

I was one ODB TD away from like $20,000 ... Giants were on the 3 ... I was having a panic attack

of course, it didn't happen
