Several of the guys on the Mazdaspeed forum have paid for oil analysis on their motors over the years and the T6 (despite being oil for diesel motors) holds up better and keeps the turbo bearing from wearing out. YMMV. |

Mine is conventional and the computer tells me to change it every 5-7k miles or so.... granted, I usually change it on the safe side of that, since 3k is etched into my brain.

The Mazdaspeed guys like the T6 because it doesn't break down under heat. The turbo bearing gets cooked with synthetics that don't handle heat very well. A lot of them use the Pennzoil Platinum. Edit: It's technically not the right viscosity for our motors but after a couple hundred miles, the heat breakdown brings the T6 to the right viscosity. |

I try to know when to change my oil by looking at it every two weeks. If you can't see the dipstick thru the oil it's time to change. The pretty good research I've done is that Mobile 1 filters and synthetic are currently the best available unless you want to go Nascar driver.

What if you have a hike mileage car, say 160,000+, that you've been using standard oil for at least the past 4 years. Would making a switch to synthetic be a smart move?

Without reading any posts and trying hard not to be sexist I would not at all be shocked to find that this car was being driven by a woman.
