I voted for DT but it was close. JC has done more with less (o line) than any other RB in recent history. It's just that watching DT play brings back happier times for me and he was my favorite as a kid. I played LB because of him.

I only got to see him in person once. It was against the lions in 99.
He was still a beast even then.

The first year I watched every Chiefs game was the 1993 season. I would occasionally catch the odd Chiefs game before that.

I remember the 1993 AFCC game vividly. I've never understood the narrative on sites like this that claim the Chiefs were in that game if this break or that happened--they were completely outclassed, similar to the beatdown that the other team I began watching every available game of that year, Mizzou, suffered against Arizona in the E8.

Digression aside, I remember the Bills running the same play, a counter trey, at Thomas, over and over again, and him not having the sense, discipline, or selflessness to stay in his gap. It was so bad that Marty was forced to bench Thomas, his best player, in the biggest game of his life, because he played in such a completely one-dimensional and selfish fashion.

I still liked him afterwards, but it was an absolutely craven, disgusting display by someone who is supposed to be a franchise cornerstone, and I can't forget that in evaluating how much I like him.

As backbreaking as Priest's fumble was in the Indy game, it was a physical error and a fluke occurrence, which is entirely different from Thomas' undisciplined play.

gotta go with DT

Jamaal has definitely eclipsed Priest for me ... I was a huge Priest mark in high school / first year of college...

I did totally turn on Priest as Vermeil FOOLISHLY kept giving him 2 series to LJ's 1 in 2005 when LJ was CLEARLY the much better ****ing back

Vermeil and Priest robbed us that year of seeing LJ rush for 2500 yards in 1 ****ing season.

He literally may have broken every record imaginable.

look at this god damn game log

http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/gamelo.../larry-johnson

Vermeil robbed us of what would have been the greatest RB season that would have ever happened ... for life. Like no doubt in my mind. He would have rushed for freaking 2400 yards, easy.

LJ missing that block on Fujita in the Dallas game was equally as killer as the D's total collapse.

The only thing I'll say about LJ in the 2005 season is that, for as much of a force of nature as he was, he also had no mileage before Priest got hurt and Vermeil gave him a ton of carries over the second half of the season. He would have likely faded with a workload like that through a whole season.

Their opening drive against the Jets in the 2005 season was about as awesome of a series as I can remember.

Man, it was close, but I had to go Priest. I wasn't as invested in the Chiefs when DT was getting started due to my age. The fact that I was a diehard for Priest's entire career made a difference.

Jamaal could eclipse him, but nostalgia is tough to beat.

Okay, I'm calling the race.

Derrick Thomas is Chiefsplanet's favorite Chief ever, with Jamaal in 2nd and Priest in 3rd.

For the record, here are my top ten favorite Chiefs:

1 - Otis Taylor. When Jamaal retires, he might move to the #1 spot.
2 - Jamaal Charles. Seriously, this guy is special.
3 - Deron Cherry. The best free safety not in the Hall of Fame.
4 - Art Still. He made everything look so easy.
5 - Albert Lewis. If he didn't do the Raider thing, he might be higher.
6 - Christian Okoye. Statistics be damned. He was a blast to watch.
7 - Buck Buchanan. The original Raider smiter.
8 - Gary Barbaro. Gary, I forgive you for leaving us.
9 - Derrick Thomas. He brought Arrowhead back to life.
10 - John Alt. The most fun you can have watching a left tackle.

There are a lot of players that I loved who can't crack the top ten.

Thanks for running the contest, RM. Jamaal has become my favorite Chief ever. Glad to see he did well. DT is an all time favorite as well. My third is probably Derrick Johnson, although I can see why he wouldn't be that high on most folks lists.

Tamba Hali as well. It's kind of odd that three of my favorite Chiefs come mostly from years where the team was a trainwreck, but JC, DJ, and Tamba Hali are all up there for me. Just all around good guys.

Yeah, it was a killer missed block ... but Surtain dropped an easy pick 6 (it was a layup) and I swear to God if we played that game 100 times we would have won it 99 times.

...and Tynes missing the kick to get it into OT was devastating ... I laid on my bedroom floor for about 15 minutes without moving when he missed that one

...and the two toss sweeps to Priest and LJ to start the season with Roaf getting out front in beast mode was the greatest thing I've ever seen in my life

realistically, if LJ was the #1 back and Priest was out that whole year I really think he'd have broken the rushing record. We probably wouldn't have lost that Philly game, either

I mean, when 1 guy is averaging 5.5 YPC and another guy is averaging 3.8 YPC in the same ****ing offense ... you gotta keep feeding the washed up guy with no hip the rock, right?
