Alien 5

It's a go.

Not a Blomkamp fan, so mixed feelings.

Before we have to wrap up, I wanted to ask you about the Alien concept art because it seems like the stuff you have in mind is what I’d want from a new Alien movie. Did you just do that for fun or was there any specific reason for you to be doing that?

BLOMKAMP: No, no, no. There was a reason. I wanted to make that film. I still may make that film. [Laughs] It may happen. But I did it on my own time. Like when Chappie was winding down in post and I had available time, I started to work on it. It was also from talking to Sigourney during the making of this. I mean, I asked her about Alien all the time. Alien and Aliens are my favorite films. So I genuinely wanted to make that film, I came up with the story, I came up with way more art than I put out and I never officially spoke to Fox about it, but Fox wanted to make it. So, I kind of touched on it and I didn’t know what to do, and I didn’t know if I was just gonna go leave directing for a whole bunch of time and then I was like, ‘I might as well put some art out.’ But I may make it. I don’t know. That’s where it stands.*

Also, it looks like they're making a sequel for that ^^^ too. The sequel doesn't look anything like the original though.

Alien 5 filming begins in Vancouver; Neill Blomkamp assures film won't overlap with Ridley Scott's Prometheus 2

Xenomorphs will appear once again in the big screen, as Niell Blomkamp's Alien 5 is underway and might film in Vancouver, Canada. Some of the actors from the Ridley Scott's 1979 movie Alien are coming back to reprise their roles.

Unlike Scott's Prometheus which aims to expand the franchise by getting away from the xenomorphs, Blomkamp's Alien 5 will reportedly focus on xenomorphs and the characters in the movie.

Also, Blomkamp said that he and Scott made sure that there won't be any overlap in their upcoming movies especially because both movies revolve around the same universe.

"I changed the one thing [Scott] felt was bumping Prometheus a little bit. One thing that makes me feel good about it is that Ridley is producing it. He likes the idea of what I want to make," he said.

Aside from that, Alien 5 will also be based on the events from Scott's 'Alien', and James Cameron's 'Aliens', while not crediting the events in the movies 'Alien 3' and 'Alien: Resurrection'.

Even though it has not been confirmed yet, reports suggest that filming for the movie will take place in Vancouver, Canada following the post from the website, YVRShoots which is a production blog that about film and television projects which will film in Vancouver.

As to the film's cast, Sigourney Weaver has been confirmed to come back for Alien 5 to reprise her role as Ellen Ripley. 'The Divide' actor Michael Biehn has also been rumored to reprise his role as Cpl. Dwayne Hicks. Meanwhile, Bill Paxton has also expressed his interest in reprising his role as Hudson, saying, "Maybe. I mean, if you're going to bring Hicks back, you've got to have Hudson!" he said.

Alien 5 will be produced by Ridley Scott along with Neill Blomkamp who is also set to direct the film.

Although the exact date for the release of the film has not been announced yet, Alien 5 is said to be released a year after Prometheus 2 hits theaters.

So has a Korean company bought Weyland Yutani or is there a Korean/Japanese cold war perhaps. Ripley and Hicks helping the enemy to destroy the derelict? Blomkamp does like his geopolitics.

Regarding the upcoming sequel directed by Neill Blomkamp, Weaver was more enthusiastic, especially given the South African director's love for the early chapters in the franchise. “I’m so excited about Neill — because Neill is like you guys! He broke the tapes of these movies when he was a kid, he watched them so much,” she told the London fanboy event, adding: “I love the fact that’s Neill’s fulfilling his childhood dream of what he hopes will be the popcorn movie, the Alien popcorn movie that he wanted as a kid to see.”

Weaver also briefly hinted at what to expect from the fifth Alien movie, namely that Ripley will finally catch a break and get a sort of happy ending. “Well — it’s certainly something we’ve discussed," she said. "I agree, she’s had kind of a crap life. Many interruptions."

I think it's a sequel to Prometheus and prequel to the Alien films.

I was intrigued by Prometheus despite its flaws so I'm excited for this either way.
