LNBS: Can we trade Chase Daniel?

I honestly think we will trade him this offseason.

This draft is weak at QB IMO and lots of teams have needs at quarterback, while Chase has shown the ability to lead a team to wins (I still view the 2013 finale as a win because the refs screwed up)

Mariotta has red flags for being a system guy that hasn't had to really throw into tight windows (his receivers were always wide open) and hasn't had to run a pro style set. Others have said he is a one read guy who looks to run too fast (not sure I agree with that)

Winston showed major red flags after his last game and while he is a gamer and has a lot of experience in a pro style offense, there are concerns that his immaturity will lead to a guy with early success but might not have the drive it takes to develop all of his skills and he might really embarrass your team if you draft him and constantly have to clean up after him.

Hundley? I once saw him as a guy that might move this year into the top spot, but he didn't really impress.

It's also a weak free agent class of QBs (even with Cutler possibly hitting free agency)

Andy has a history of trading quarterbacks for picks and it would be amazing if he can get us a third for Daniel while saving us nearly 4 million in cap space while he's at it.

Honestly, the more I look into this QB class, I think it's not only possible but probable that they move Chase...I think a third is possible...or maybe a conditional pick dependent on playing time and production.

Texans
Bills
Rams
Bears
Jets
Jags
Titans
Bucs

That's a lot of QB needy teams without a lot of options out there.

Chase will not leave this roster until well into training camp or preseason. At that point the FO can see what they have in the other QBs on the roster and see if there is a true viable backup. If they don't believe that there is then Chase will stay.
You talk like Chase is a proven commodity when the truth is that is not remotely the case. The man has virtually no experience doing anything other than holding a clipboard. His salary is not conducive to what needs to be done and his abilities don't counterbalance the salary.

Easy there Diddy. Don't diddle on yourself this morning.
Chase is the chosen backup for this regime. They chose to pay him this much. He has beaten the Chargers and almost beaten their first string with a second string squad. That is more than other starting QBs have done.
Smith has to have a good backup, he has issues staying healthy. If they bring in another backup that player will have to get up to speed on the playbook and system quickly. This is probably one of those times where the time in the system behooves staying with Daniel or promoting Murray instead of going with another vet that would be over priced as well.

Wayne might be old as he'll but he's balled hard. I'm not convinced kelces much better than Allen he's been in and out with injuries and really shines. I'm not saying he's more gifted but he is talented and has been consistent when called upon. Then there's fleener who hasn't 100% lived up to his billing in my opinion but is already better than Fasano.

Nicks is a jag probably a step behind bowe. He doesn't win consistently. Hilton's a badass end of story.

They've got two tight ends who averaged are better than ours and their receiving corps gives anyone a run for their money except maybe San Fran. (Home of the next over rated qb)

The problem is you're giving the WR's credit for production when in reality it's more to do with the QB getting them the ball. Same thing with the people pining for Cobb and bitching about Bowe. It's a lot more to do with Smith/Rodges than it is the play of the WR's. I have trouble taking anyone seriously that feels Luck is over rated because of a poor performance in the AFC title game his 3rd year in the league

For the record I didn't even watch that game. I realize luck help make them. Like smith kills our guys. I realize nicks and Wayne aren't wide open every play. But Ty Hilton is almost always available moncrief is to be determined but was highly regarded coming out as a playmaker. Indy has made a point to get guys that have and can do "IT".

He's got one hot up and comer one young guy still on the rise two guys past their prime. I'd say Wayne is easily still in the above average category. Nicks is average.

Let's compare apples to apples. Indy let Donny Avery go in an effort to get better. We picked Donnie Avery up. Donnie Avery got let go in favor of hey ward bey or some garbage reciever like that who in turn got let go for nicks/moncrief. That in my mind shows they've actively worked to continue to give him a supporting cast. And it looks to be as good as any except maybe Denver, and San Fran.

Chase Daniel isnt the future of the QB position for the Chiefs, if this team is going to press forward and grow, the backup QB needs to be the future, or atleast the potential future.

Having an expensive journeyman hold that spot is a huge waste of time.

This, all day. Nobody is going to trade anything for him, even a 7th.

Chase will make a fine offensive coach one day. Hopefully he'll come back here and help out in that regard. But now, you cut him and go with Murray and Bray/rookie as your backups.

So you are not counting backs to fit your argument since Indi's are ass?

Here are teams with at least as good if not better supporting cast than the Colts factoring in ALL skill positions at the QB's disposal

Buffalo
Pittsburgh
Bengals
Cowboys
Eagles
Redskins
Cards
Broncos
Packers
Bears
Lions
Falcons
Saints
Bucs
Giants (with healthy Cruz)

I think your pushing your luck with a lot of these. But to each his own.

In a way you prove my point on this list I'd say only fivehead, Rodgers, and Brady have got it done without star surroundings. (Bree's maybe I've never watched much n.o.). Allow me to refine my argument. I think luck is over rated. From what I see many thinks he's top shelf. My argument is he's like stafford, Kaep, and matty ice. His surroundings have kept his head above water. All have above average options to go to.

Is there a lot more to it? Absolutely but luck has had every advantage as a young qb.

I'd say you would be in the extreme minority in your opinion.

If most teams were starting out from scratch today and could take 1 player it's either Luck or Rodgers.

I haven't seen any indications that Reid/Dorsey plan on making any real changes.

They will continue to 'tweak' as the contracts of guys run out etc.

trading Daniel would mean a commitment to a young guy

year 2 of a the 5-year rebuilding plan

see ya in 2018

They have Alex. They likely view all the backups as just that - backups. Daniel, Bray, Murray, new guy, rookie....whatever, they're all the same.

I'm all for Murray. In my eyes a backup should be a player who is ascending and have the capability to be a full time starter if the need arises. Murray is that, Chase isn't even close.

Well obviously based on age. And I'm aware I'm the minority. I'm ok with that. I'm no football scholar or brilliant football mind. I just don't see what espn is pimping. He's good. He's not elite. He's not even close in my mind. I'm not here to argue with you just putting my opinion out there.

Daniels > Hundley

I think he could net a 3rd. A lot of QB-desperate teams out there atm.
