A lot of the pressure Smith faced last year came right between center and guard. This forced Smith to roll out right towards our struggling rookie.

He should train with the Raiders. Determine which brand of stickem to buy.

I'd argue that drafting a potential replacement to one of our starting OLB's is more of a building for the future type of move versus drafting a high level guard prospect and protecting Smith right here, right now. They would have gotten a lot more immediate initial mileage out of S'ua-Filo or Gabe Jackson than they will out of Dee Ford.

I'll do you one better...

Two guys I would have been happy for us to draft in the first round went in the third - Gabe Jackson and Donte Moncrief.

Jackson went a few picks before our pick, but Moncrief was still available when we picked DB Phil Gaines.

It will be interesting to watch what kind of year/career Moncrief has with Andrew Luck throwing to him versus Phil Gaines as a Chief. I'd bet that Moncrief has a better rookie year than Keenan Allen did for the Chargers in 2013.

And if you want off-the-wall crazy, I'd rather have the Jets seventh round selection Trevor Reilly than Dee Ford.

This.

Hopefully the playoff game was a breakthrough game for both of them...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

You just get the sense that this guy really wants to stick here for whatever reason and I appreciate a player like that... he continually tries to get better and please whoever happens to be coaching at the time. I think last year was a combination of him learning the new system and Alex learning to trust him.

well they have to start somewhere! Its the Chiefs, we all want them to do well. This also isnt about the defense its about a player who had a down ****ing year.

I'm is/was upset about the defense as much as anyone, but relax.

Originally committed to Texas Tech. Switched to Utah after Leach left.

He was considered a second day pick by just about everybody. Very good size and athleticism for the position, can and did play just about every position on the defense and played them well. His college numbers dwarfed Fords.

Injury and age issues (he's 26) dropped him, but he is a more well rounded player than Ford at this point and nearly as athletic (originally was recruited as a safety, but played both OLB positions, both MLB positions, SS, DE & DT). First team All-Pac12:

Reilly:
6'5", 245 lbs.
40: 4.66
Vertical: 34"
Broad: 9'9"
Bench: 26 reps
NFL.com draft grade: 5.35

2013:
100 tackles
16.5 tfl
9 sacks
3 ff
1 int

Ford:
6'2", 252 lbs.
40: 4.53
Vertical: 35.5"
Broad: 10'4"
Bench: 29 reps
NFL.com draft grade: 5.37

2013:
29 tackles
14.5 tfl
10.5 sacks
2 ff

One taken in the first round, one in the seventh.

Personally, I think someone laced Dorsey's ginger ale right before the draft commenced.

Saccopoo never met a Utah player he didn't like.

And that goes for players from BYU, Utah, Utah State, Weber State, and probably even Utah College of Massage Therapy
