Baseball/Football/Other Sports Cards You Thought Would Be Worth Something

I'm sure there are a lot of collectors here.

Do you ever remember opening a pack of cards and thinking that you hit the Jackpot, only to later think back upon that and laugh?

What were those cards?

I bought one of the Billy Ripken "butt face" cards when I worked at a sports memorabilia shop in college. Still got it somewhere.

If forgotten, but the card actually has the words **** face ( rhymes with duck face) on the end of the bat. No idea what it's worth

Not much. $10-$15 if in mint condition.

I collected a bunch of Chiefs player cards back 10-12:years ago. I doubt any of them will ever be worth anything. Probably got about 100 Derrick Thomas cards. Tony Gonzalez rookie cards, Marcus Allen rookie and Chiefs cards. Those are the only ones that might have any worth at all. I also have Neil Smith and other player cards from the Marty years that I know are worthless. Never tried to value any of them. Just keep them in an album.

I bought a Becketts just a couple of months ago, hadn't checked the value of my cards in atleast ten years, thought I'd be in for a few pleasant surprises... uh yeah, no.

3/4 of them have actually went DOWN, in many cases DRAMATICALLY, to cite just one example, a Joe Montana second year card that had held steady at $35 seemingly forever, has in the last ten years, dropped to $15

An Edgerrin James Colts gameball card I'd never priced?... seven ****ing dollars, those are just the tip of the iceberg, only 2-3 actually rose in value, two of them being Brett Favre die-cuts and one Marino die-cut.

**** football cards, I'm done with that dumbass hobby, it just sucks you dry and almost never gives anything in return

I know how you feel. Stopped buying boxes and packs of cards along time ago. Never have I gotten anything worth while from buying boxes and packs.

Couldn't agree more, Al Capone WISHED he had a racket so lucrative... box after box, pack after pack, I don't even wanna know how much money I spent.

And now, even the older or "rarer" cards I had aren't worth putting in bicycle spokes, the 80's-90's were ****ing BRUTAL... nope, if you want an extremely valuable card anymore you pretty much have to buy it off eBay from some guys $20 a pack collection, or I don't even know anymore, I've never even heard of the new brands I've seen online that actually have big money cards in their sets.

Fact is, its a ruined hobby... I'd need to drive an hour and a half just to buy a pack of weird cards that MIGHT have something worthwhile in them, its a ruined hobby.

92 Brian Taylor topps. Was supposed to be a top prospect for the Yankees. I used to go to all the card shows around KC back in the day. It's funny now to think about all the grown adults who set up tables at card shows and would negotiate trades with little kids like hardasses. Very much like the comic book store guy on the Simpsons.

Used to collect a lot and after reading this thread sounds like I'm out of luck on ever getting much although I've never checked.

Here's a few that I thought might be worth something
