In 2011, Carson Palmer threw for 2753 yards in 10 games. He averaged 275 yards a game.

In 2011, Matt Cassel threw for 1713 yards in 9 games. He averaged 190 yards a game.
In 2010, Matt Cassel threw for 3116 yards in 15 games. He averaged 208 yards a game.
In 2009, Matt Cassel threw for 2924 yards in 15 games. He averaged 195 yards a game.
In 2008, Matt Cassel threw for 3693 yards in 16 games. He averaged 231 yards a game. (his best season)

A better comparison, given the offensive philosophy, is Matt Schaub.

He averaged 247 yards in 10 games.
He averged 298 yards in 2010.

Matt Cassel in 2010, the year that Pioli points to as an indicator of Matt Cassel's potential to be good doesn't come close to either of those numbers.

Even more telling is the completion percentages.

Matt Schaub in 2010: 63.6
2011: 61

Matt Cassel in 2010: 58.2
2011: 59.5

If Cassel averages less than 230 ypg, and less than 60% completeion, then this team is exactly where it was in 2010, in spite of all the added talent on both sides of the ball.

If cassel could average something like 260 per game it would be a tremendously successful season. I just don't see a way we can beat good teams with him rarely topping the 220 yard mark
