Question about House painting:

The addition to my house that I have been working on for the past 2 yearsis nearly finished. FINALLY!! Now we are repainting the house. I'm planning to paint right over the old paint. But there are new parts that need to be primed. I have a few partially full cans of old exterior paint that will not be used as the final color. Can I use them up as primer?

You painted brick or that's the color?

Yep, great advice !

That's the natural color. It's never been painted, which is kind of cool for a 111 year old house.

I'm switching from Sherwin Williams to Behr Premium Plus, has anyone used this paint?
Me and my brother sprayed on Behr exterior 10 years ago seems to be holding up fine. It was a lighter color so doesn't show fading as much down the road. My brother wanted me to chip match with Benjamin Moore as he really likes that paint for spraying. I like the price of Behr and it turned out brother liked how it sprayed and covered. So all in all I think you will be fine.

Behr paint sucks. Won't ever use it again.

And yes, darker exterior colors will show fading sooner than lighter colors.

Good idea. But most cities have a hazardous waste disposal plan. Look up "Household hazardous waste" near you. It's free just pull up and they unload your car.

Anything but Behr.

Really though, I've only had issues with their interior paints. Sherwin Williams has by far the best products but you will pay for it. I use a lot of Glidden and some local brands.

So Bug, what's your thoughts on redoing vinyl shutters around 10 years old with fading and oxidation? They are hunter green and would make a nice third color combination, the wife say's leave them off.

Well you could clean them up and paint them, or you could listen to the wife. Which seems like the easier option?

They do help dress a house up a bit tho. I left mine off last time I painted but they were old and decrepit and I didn't feel like buying new ones.

Did you buy the car to match the house or vice versa?
