Wrong.
Peterson and Schottenheimer HATED DeBerg. He was a partier and a womanizer that didn't love football. They drafted Elkins with the hope that he'd be a starter. Unfortunately, that didn't work out. So, they signed Dave Krieg and kicked DeBerg to the curb. Unfortunately, Krieg was done. But at least he drafted Matt Blundin in 1992, who went something like 238 attempts without an interception. Marty compared him to Bernie Kosar (pre-pornstar daughter). Blundin failed to learn under Krieg and traded for Joe Montana. After that failed, Carl did the "next best thing" and signed Steve Bono and Rich Gannon, who had been out of football for a year. After they both failed, he interviewed EVERY available starting QB and chose Elvis Grbac. So, I just don't want to hear this shit that Peterson didn't "try". He tried his ass off but he just never hit on the right guy. |

Interesting Deberg story.
Why did he play with a broken pinky if he didn't love football?

I am going to give Carl his due credit. He and Marty put the fans into the Arrowhead. People here forget that Carl was the hot GM after he rode into town. He entertained us. Brought in Joe Montana, Marcus Allen, some good free agents. He had his good moments. The team won lots of games and took its chances in the playoffs. Too bad it didn't work out. He just stayed too long.

Just from memory, but i think Aaron Rodgers was the only 1st round QB that Peterson ever passed on that turned out to be something special. Most of the time we were picking in that 15-30 range where its alot harder to find gifted QBs. I dont like Peterson overall, but ive acknowledged many times his ability to turn the franchise around. He was certainly far better than Piolli.

This guy bounced around from franchise to franchise to franchise for four DECADES. He certainly had talent, ideal size, football smarts, etc. He just loved "The Life" more than he loved football. |

From 1989 to 2005, the Chiefs had exactly FOUR losing seasons out of SEVENTEEN: 1998, 2000, 2001 AND 2004. 7-9, 7-9, 6-10, 7-9. He drafted Hall of Famers Derrick Thomas, Will Shields and Tony Gonzalez along the way (and traded for HOFer Joe Montana and signed HOFer Marcus Allen). Yeah, he was awful. |

Deberg doesn't like anything judging from his posts here. Like, every post.
