Car heater problem

For the car guys - The heater on my '06 Impala is screwing up. - will only blow warm air when the car is moving. Eventually it starts working correctly, but it takes longer than I generally drive on an average day, and there's no way I could defrost the windows right now if I needed to. Obviously need to get this addressed quickly.

Any thoughts?

They also have a gasket behind the water pump that seeps and loses coolant. metal with a rubber insert. when is replaced you put a regular type gasket on it IMO.

I topped off the fluid and it didn't have any effect. Not getting a check engine light.

One of my friends is putting in some calls to a couple of his mechanic friends. Sounds like this is out of my league, and in any event my crawling under cars days are over.

My money is on the core being partially plugged. Those throw a code pretty easily.usually WAY before people realize anything is different.

Another thing that's odd - like I said, the heater works when the car's moving, but when it does, it seems extra warm.

That's probably not a good thing, either.

Maybe I should just go trade it in before the weather gets cold.

I'm betting either the water pump gasket, just replace the pump at that point, or that STUPID ****ING GM COOLANT has sludged up the heater core and it is taking more flow to get through.

My money is on the core needing flushed.

wouldn't be too much for me to fix I would bet. Cost wise. But that fuel bill would suck lol.

Shouldn't be too pricey

Yeah, my buddy concurs, should be a couple of hundred dollar fix as long as I don't take it to a dealership, which I won't.
