LDT and Morse expected back next week

Chiefs coach Andy Reid expects RG Laurent Duvernay-Tardif (knee) to return next week.

Duvernay-Tardif has missed the last two games. The Chiefs also plan to get Mitch Morse back coming off their extended layoff. It's a huge upgrade for the interior line.

Tamba causes pressure on the QB, often flushing them the other direction, right into Houston. Without Tamba Houston has not looked as unstoppable most of this season.

Well since we are facing Denver's D line next Mon. nite this is good but it will be difficult to run regardless and the pass game will be difficult as well BUT TK always plays big against Denver because TK is such a match up nightmare. As good as Denver's D is no way they can shut down all 3 TK,TH and KH so who will they go lite on ?

I would guess Kareem Hunt. They'll rely on their front-7 to bottle him up while doubling Hill and Kelce.

You bet... it just makes everything way tougher on an offense. They can't just chip or double team Houston without really having any worries from the other side.

I wish Ford was that guy, but he is just far too inconsistent. Doesn't win his one-on-ones near enough. I look forward to the Chiefs hopefully pursuing long term answers at pass rusher and the secondary aggressively next offseason.

We are in a great spot because we have almost the entire offense returning in '18, and we should have only holes to fill on D. But, there will be cap room to fill those holes as needed.

It is an absolute "MUST" that you have 2 legit threats coming from both sides of the d-line. Thomas had Smith. Hali's game really took off when Allen came into his own. Those D's that have only one elite pass rusher struggle because they can double/chip the elite pass rusher on almost every play BUT you get 2 elite pass rushers then it totally changes everything and now the offensive line becomes much more vulnerable. Ingraham has BOSA, who does Mack have ? Who does Houston have? Who does Miller have ? Shane Ray was that guy until he was put on IR and now you can somewhat neutralize Miller and Mack and play around them. Yes they will make their plays because they are that elite but they now cannot totally dominate. Denver's D still can dominate collectively because their 2ndary is elite and d-line are very good. Ford was supposed to be the other guy for Houston but it ain't happened.

Jared Allen was drafted in 2004.

Tamba Hali was drafted in 2006.

Allen was traded before the 2008 season.

Hali had 8 in 2006 and 7.5 in 2007 and didn’t hit double digits until 2010, three seasons after Allen was traded.

As always you miss the point. They played off each other when they were on the field together. Notice Jared's 15.5 sacks in 07 while Hali is a 2nd yr player with 7.5 sacks. Notice after Allen gets traded Hali's production goes down to just 3.0 the next year. You think Hali gets 8 his rookie year and 7.5 his 2nd yr without Allen on the other side. And vice versa for Allen's stats IF Hali is not on the other side?

JFC, you’re a ****ing dumbshit.

Hali’s “game” didn’t “take off” until 3 years after Allen was traded.

We are getting the 2nd best passing blocking G in football back.

T-2. Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, Kansas City Chiefs
PASS BLOCKING EFFICIENCY: 99.3
Best game: Week 2 vs PHI, 73.4 overall grade

Quote:
The Chiefs’ interior offensive line has slightly struggled in recent weeks, which is largely due to some key injuries along the offensive line. However, while most have mentioned the injury of center Mitch Morse, Duvernay-Tardif’s injury had arguably just as big an impact on Kansas City’s pass protection woes, if not bigger. The Canadian guard went down with a knee injury against Washington in Week 4, but was off to a great start to his 2017 campaign as he gave up just one pressure in the first three games against the Patriots, the Eagles and the Chargers. Duvernay-Tardif can be back on the field as soon as Week 8 and the Chiefs will need him as he is establishing himself as one of the best pass blocking guards in the NFL.

I'm going Laz here, but I'd have liked to see Chris Jones being used as the ROLB.

Insert your LOLs here ------> _________________________________

The Chiefs have needed more power than speed when rushing the weak side of OLs. Chris Jones, being 300+ lbs or not, would bring that pass rush straight through LTs.

For those that do not instantly get the words straight through.. it's used deliberately. Instead of watching Ford or Zombo run useless circles around the QB, Jones would be running more through and inside of the LT. This is what will get QBs shitting themselves by either eating Jones or Houston on the other edge.

It also puts more run stop beef inside with RNR-Logan-Bailey.. then Houston.

Ford can get his occasional rushes when in 3rd and long.

Putting aside your contempt for Alex-fans/team jumpers/etc... whatcha think?

They did put him at de and let him rush against the LT in Oakland a few times. It worked well but the ball got out too quick

The answer with Jones isn't to move him further outside, it's to move him further inside.

He has the ability to bring a pass rush from the middle of the pocket - that's absolutely invaluable in today's era. And his ability to crush the center also wrecks those cutback lanes that runners are looking for.

Jones to ROLB is a truly horrifyingly bad idea because it takes a very scarce asset (interior pass rush) and trades it for one that really isn't that hard to come by (a 3-4 OLB). RNR replacing Jones will hurt the rush defense more than it will help it; he's just bad with run technique even if his skills say he shouldn't be. Losing on the line to (maybe) gain at the second level isn't a trade I'm willing to make.

The problem remains Derrick Johnson, fellas. I mean, there's no real single problem, but the biggest problem with this defense right now is that our Mike linebacker simply can't play anymore. He's late to the hole, he's off balance and easy to blow apart when he gets there and should he manage to somehow get to the ballcarrier there's no better than a 50% chance he brings him down it seems. Worse still, he's a liability in coverage which forces someone like Houston to spend more time dropping back than is ideal.

Derrick Johnson is the first change that needs to be made. It's time to see what Eligwe or even Ragland can do over there. Yes, I am confident that a Ramik/Ragland duo would be better than Ragland/DJ at this point. DJ's absolutely fallen that far.
