CBS NEWS: Hot Sauces Ranked By Heat

Hot sauces, ranked by heat:
http://www.cbsnews.com/pictures/hot-...d_id=61806652/

The listicle goes from one to twenty nine, even though they are listed as 1-30 with number 30 missing. Here are a few of my favorites from the list that I have tried and enjoyed over the years-other than that last one. I have never tried the stuff but I want to cook with it at some point, before I'm so old that it will kill me. The article has pics to jog your memory. Click on it to see them.

    • 26. Taco Bell Fire Sauce
    • This is the hottest sauce served in packets at the popular taco chain. It has 500 SHU... nowhere near the top of the scale.
    • Credit: Tacobell via Instagram
    • 24. Valentina Salsa Picante
    • Valentina Salsa is just starting to gain popularity in the United States, but it's the best-selling hot sauce in Mexico. It brings 900 SHU.
    • Credit: SalsaValentina via Facebook
    • 19. Valentina Salas Picanto - Extra Hot
    • Valentina's spicier version delivers 2,100 SHU — more than double the heat of its original.
    • Credit: SalsaValentina via Facebook
    • 18. Huy Fong Foods Sriracha Sauce
    • Sriracha creator David Tran said he set out to "make a rich man's sauce at a poor man's price."
    • The company has never advertised its products, but in 2010, Tran had to open a 650,000-square-foot facility to keep up with demand. Sriracha clocks in at 2,200 SHU.
    • Credit: Huyfongfoods via Instagram
    • 14. Tabasco Original Hot Sauce
    • The ubiquitous hot sauce has up to 5,000 SHU.
    • Credit: Tabasco via Instagram
    • 8. Dave’s Ultimate Insanity Hot Sauce
    • Dave's Gourmet recommends you use this sauce "one drop at a time." It boasts 250,000 SHU.
    • Credit: DavesGourmet via Facebook
    • 1. Blair’s 16 Million Reserve
    • The hottest hot sauce isn't really a sauce at all. It's packaged pure capsaicin crystals (the chemical compound that makes peppers hot), and is "not to be consumed or even opened without using extreme caution."
    • As the name suggests, it clocks in at 16,000,000 SHU.

I wonder if there's a world record for the fastest consumption of a lemon meringue pie. I bet I hold that record, even if it's not official.

I couldn't find anything on lemon meringue, but I found something pretty impressive nonetheless.

In high school I bet a friend of mine a dollar that he couldn't eat a chicken sandwich covered in Dave's Insanity Sauce.

After the first bite, he smirked.

After the third, he began sweating profusely and went white as a sheet.

After he finished the sandwich, he went to the bathroom.

We had the class after lunch together, and he came in 30 minutes late and had to explain that he had been vomiting for almost an hour.

I still think it's the best value I've ever gotten for $1.

I LOVE it hot, but Tabasco is really about as hot as I can take it. I do tend to "hose" things down with the Tabasco though. It is not like the food gets a drop or 2. I really coat it pretty good.

The other nice thing about Tabasco is that it tricks you into thinking warm food is hot. A good dose in chili that is cooling off will still make it "feel" like it is right out of the pot. It is a different heat, but it works for me. Beats getting up and putting the chili in the microwave every time it cools off a little.

Yeah, I'm probably due for throat cancer.

I basically chugged it like a beer. There was a huge fiery burp directly after, where I thought I was going to lose it. I managed to hold it down though. Several hours later I barfed it all into the toilet. Mostly into the toilet. Tabasco vomit coming out your nose is no fun. But I'm sure I saved myself some pain had it exited the other end...

The other-end exit is what my group thought would be painful, but it wasn't at all. I had zero problems after downing all that Tabasco. I think I was helped a lot by having eaten a big pasta dinner just beforehand, though. If my belly were instead full of booze, I'd probably have been heaving that stuff all over the place, and I bet it would have burned, too.

Wow. I wonder if that's a classic apple pie in a pie pan or if it's like a Hostess apple pie or something.

But now I'm intrigued. Maybe I can be the first world-record holder in lemon meringue pie eating.

Yeah, most of the hottest "sauces" shouldn't even be labeled as such...

The hottest I have had is Dave's insanity sauce, and I don't consider something like that to be a sauce...

The time I was referring to above was when my Dad had bought a bottle before we all went to Galveston Texas to my brother's wedding.

His wife's family are 100% Mexican and were making some Chili that night.
The MIL grabbed the bottle and proceeded to dump nearly the entire contents into the pot before my father could stop her.

He tried to explain that it was, well, insanely hot...

hey all started laughing, and responded that well, hardy har, they were Mexican's.
What is hot to us, is not hot to them..

A lot of beans were spilled that night, and I'm not talking about confessions..
At least 5 Mexican's lost their dinner, while us gringos passed on the Chili..

They was no way that they were going to take a few bites and say it was too hot..

Pride can be a real bitch.

Don't want to derail the thread but Just wanted to throw out there that Her parents are Legal Mexican immigrants and proud business owners of a locksmith company who all voted for Donald Trump..

How did I miss this. I've pimped Mrs. Renfro's Ghost Pepper to the point of annoyance here.

Even better, Ghost Pepper BBQ. It's very much in the vein of a spicy thin KC style sauce [tomato, smoke, sweet] but with plenty of heat. Doesn't hit you out of the gate like the salsa, but sticks around and builds up more in the long run.

Take one taste of each, and the salsa will be judged hotter. Eat a plate of brisket w/BBQ versus a plate of nachos with Salsa, and the BBQ sauce will be judged hotter.

My favorite thing, and stick with me here, is to take a brush and flick the BBQ sauce on popcorn. It's sticky/sweet like cracker jack, but smoky hot like BBQ, and you will sweat to finish a bowl.

My Daughter in Law used to claim that she didn't have the taste buds for hot sauce. My Son once had her give this stuff a try

http://www.originaljuan.com/news/the-source-is-number-1

She never batted an eye....Damned if I am going to do it, though.....it was called "The Source" down at original Juan's = something like 8 million scovilles.....too damned much for me.
