Honest car question

Considering buying a used BMW, I've driven several and love how they feel and all the features they have. I've read the motors are suppose to last a really long time.

Was just curious if anyone here has any long term experience and if the things I've read about them easily making it over 300k miles are the truth.

I had an X3 and like the acceleration and tight ride, however, they are finicky. The light goes on very many reasons, and it has went into limp mode for simple things which is a pain even during the warranty period. We also had to put a cold weather oil collection kit on it as it was causing a small oil leak. I don't know if this was only on the 3 series, or on the 5 series as well. Also, check out the Takata airbag recalls... My daughter now has it and I bought a scanner to read and clear codes. I enjoyed the car but won't buy another BMW.

Is there an issue with having 2 cars? Parking?

Cheapskate, kind of.

We only need the second car maybe five days a year, and it's not worth owning and maintaining a second car. Plus, we can bump the rent in our apartment if we include a garage spot.

I had a 2005 3-series. It was a piece of shit. Burned oil horribly (perhaps the prior owner didn't change the oil, IDK). Tons of shit went bad on it and was always expensive to fix. The interior lights would have issues of going out for no apparent reason. The entire dashboard was lit up by the end. The ABS went out and it turned out to be a $2400 fix. I decided instead of fixing it to sell it because some poor hap would overvalue the brand. I was lucky, I was able to still sell it because it looked really pretty and nice despite all the shit wrong with it. Didn't even really lose much, just detailed it and whammo. So, I guess a + is that they retain their value. Never again. I'm on my second Prius now, and much more dependable, efficient and cheaper to fix.

Oddly (unlike the Audi's I'd owned) - it's generally very minor stuff such as turn signal bulbs blowing and annoying things like that. Aside from the pricey oil changes, things aren't too rough. I always had worse problems w/ the two Audi's I had.

Here's my little girl (which most of you have seen in the cars thread):

Very nice car SR.

Would you say that your car has enabled you to obtain large quantities of snatch? You know punani, cooter, furburger? Asking for a friend.

SR's charm and wit is all he needs to obtain large quantities of snatch. His fine motorcars are just a bonus.

Oh, and hell no to a used Bimmer.

I have about 54k on my 2012 M3 and haven't encountered either of those issues. I got the feeling the rod bearings were not as common as the message boards made it seem but has been over 3 years since I last checked in on the issue.
