The ridiculous thing that keeps getting brought up is if we sign X wr it won't matter because Alex Smith.

Strange thing is Alex Smith had no problems getting the ball to Albert Wilson.

Two games with one catch, one each with two, three, four and five? That's 'getting the ball' to a guy? Dwayne Bowe looks like an all star next to Wilson's production. Which I do not say to discredit Wilson. He showed well for an undrafted player, I like his makeup and hope he develops into something. But come on, he caught 16 passes in 12 games.

You think Randall Cobb gets 13 yards a catch with Smith throwing to him?

13 catches in 3 weeks with Smith when he finally got a chance to play. Wilson is nothing more than a 3/4 wr but the point is a guy with his skill set works out nicely with Smith. That's why Cobb is an attractive free agent.

Yeah I knew someone would bring that play up and that was an awful throw.

I'm not an Alex Smith fan hes a limited QB but the team has invested in him so might as well acquire players who's skill set complements him.

Bowe probably doesn't get that wide open on that play.

12 catches. That's 4 per game. That is not a lot. About what Bowe ended up catching (60) and nobody was satisfied with that. Including I would assume Bowe.

So when Cobb comes in and catches 60 passes at 9 million a year are we going to be satisfied with that?

My guess is no, we'll complain that he's not getting open, or dropping too many passes, or how he's just not a number one, and how he's overpaid, and what a mistake it was, and who can we bring in in 2016 that fits what Alex Smith does.

Of course I would assume that it's a moot point, that Green Bay will keep him, and even if they don't we aren't going to be willing to pay that much.

Wilson was a UDFA rookie in his first year as a 3rd or 4th option guy yet outperformed Bowe in that time period.

We won't complain about Cobb not getting open because he can and like it or not Bowe rightfully deserves the criticism for not playing up to his contract he failed in nearly every metric.

Like it or not, we're going to overpay for WRs with Alex Smith as our QB. He has never produced a 1000 yard receiver or a 10 TD guy. And if we spend oodles of money on Cobb "because he can get open", we're just going to get disappointed when his numbers go right the **** back down.

Do you think Cobb can get 1000 yards with this QB? I don't think he can. We'd be paying him to put up top 10-15 receiving production stats, and he'd probably manage barely more than Bowe.

Every WR will be "overpaid" because that's how the market is setup.

Yes Cobb can be a 1,000 yard guy. Doubtful he'll score 10 tds the Reid offense isn't really designed that way.

I think the solution is a five wide TE set

If there was any chance that Cobb would end up here - which I don't think there is - Alex Smith would do exactly the same thing to him that he's done to every other receiver in his career, including Bowe. Nobody marginalizes receiver play like he does.
