Nolan's Batman 3 Title
Batman sequel 'Rises' again
LOS ANGELES - THE next Batman sequel has a title: The Dark Knight Rises. Distributor Warner Bros. confirmed the name for director Christopher Nolan's third adventure about the DC Comics vigilante hero, which follows Batman Begins in 2005 and The Dark Knight in 2008. The Dark Knight Rises is due in theaters July 20, 2012. Bucking Hollywood's current wave of 3-D movies, Nolan is not planning to shoot the film in 3-D. Warner Bros had agreed with Nolan's argument that the sequel should resist the 3-D craze, the director told the Los Angeles Times' Hero Complex blog, which first reported the title. Nolan would not reveal what villain might appear in The Dark Knight Rises, but he said it would not be the Riddler, one of the key bad guys in the comics and past film and TV Batman tales. Earlier this year, Nolan said he would not resurrect the Joker, the cackling villain played by Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight. Ledger won the supporting-actor Academy Award for the role, a year after he died of an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. -- AP |

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think Nolan was as concerned with hotness as he was with ability. And Maggie's ability is far and away superior. It was a good casting change, is all I'm saying. And, yeah, I think over a body of work Jack Nicholson clearly shows he's better than Heath Ledger. But whose Joker do you prefer? |

And I do think that Heath's Joker is much better than Jack's. But I think it has more to do with how each role was written and the overall direction and feel of both movies, rather than acting talent. |

Nicholson's was the comic book version of Joker, Ledger's was the Nolan's grounded in reality version. Ledger was ****ing brilliant in TDK. No amount of anti-hype sentiment is ever going to change that.

Well, to each their own.
I'd be willing to bet that if Heath's overall career would have given Jack's a run for its money too. Heath was just coming into his own. Monster's Ball, Brokeback Mountain, I'm Not There and The Dark Knight are all remarkable performances. He was a damn fine actor. It bums me out to think of what could have been. |

It's like comparing Jason Bourne world to James Bond world. Neither are truly grounded in reality, but one is way, way closer.

See, this is what I'm talking about. I'm not even a fan of Heath Ledger's, I'm just able to look at his feat in TDK objectively and realize that holy shit, the actor completely transformed himself and became the character like I haven't really seen before (in my very limited experience).
