I hear ya, but there are two problems. First, the haul of players/prospects we'd have to give up. Second, you only have him for 1 year before he hits FA.

Could it be that he sees the window to secure some hardware and is willing to shell out above the the estimated payroll everyone has anticipated? It could just be doubletalk, ya know, like coach speak or canned answers you hear from athletes all the time. However, what the hell is going on with talks with guys like Lester's agent, because it can't just be for show no matter how improbable. We've never gone window shopping in previous off seasons for free agents at the top end of the market. Besides, what is point of Dayton wasted time on a pipedream signing unless he's got the green light, and the Royals honestly think they can at least make an offer that is competitive and the x or y player would seriously consider it. Otherwise, I'm just drinking the Royal blue kool-aid...

Paulo Orlando - Royals recently purchased his contract from Omaha, is Batting .309 with 4 HRs in Venezuela Winter Ball
Moises Sierra is batting .272 in Dominican Winter Ball. Royals claimed him off waivers from Chicago White Sox during the World Series. http://mlb.mlb.com/milb/stats/stats....d=l131&lid=131 |

Royals have to create their 40 man roster for tomorrow's Rule 5 Draft deadline. I think the Rule 5 Draft comes up Dec 11.
Currently KC has 35 players listed. Aaron Brooks Francisley Bueno Casey Coleman Louis Coleman Tim Collins Aaron Crow Wade Davis Danny Duffy Brandon Finnegan Jeremy Guthrie Kelvin Herrera Greg Holland John Lamb Michael Mariot Jason Vargas Yordano Ventura Erik Kratz Francisco Pena Salvador Perez Christian Colon Cheslor Cuthbert Alcides Escobar Johnny Giavotella Eric Hosmer Omar Infante Mike Moustakas Jayson Nix Lane Adams Lorenzo Cain Jarrod Dyson Alex Gordon Terrance Gore Paulo Orlando Carlos Peguero Moises Sierra What players do they need to add from their minor league teams? |

Teams have until 10:59 p.m. CT on Thursday to protect players otherwise eligible for the Rule 5 Draft, a mechanism that helps spare players from being buried indefinitely in the Minor Leagues. Generally, a player who signs his first pro contract before his 19th birthday is Rule 5 eligible after five seasons, and one who signed at age 19 or older is eligible after four seasons.
It costs $50,000 to make a claim, half of which must be returned along with the player if he does not spend the entire ensuing season in the Major Leagues. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/101915...igible-players |

Neither Jayson Nix nor Aaron Brooks should be on the 40 man roster, complete wastes of space.

Interesting story about how the "Billy Butler to the A's" story was broken by a 13 year old and an 18 year old.

I'd remove Tim Collins, Johnny Giavotella, and Jayson Nix from the 40 man roster. |

The Royals don't really have to worry too much about making room on the 40-man right now. The only concern is the Rule V draft tonight and protecting eligible guys.
Jorge Bonifacio must be protected this year and obviously will be. Same with Whit Merrifield, who hit .340 at Omaha and could be a useful UTIL guy (can play OF, IF, pretty much everywhere except C and SS). SS Orlando Calixte also needs to be protected, and will be. Other than those three, there's not anyone who is super-important to protect, so they don't really need to worry about clearing roster spots.
