The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

Before the draft, I wanted him traded. Now, I want him on our line in 2013. If Miami or anyone else wants him AFTER the draft, their offer better double.

If McKinnie signs with Miami, then I retract what I said prior. Albert will be here for the 13 season and I envision him playing LG whether he likes it or not.

Schwartz or Stephenson at RT?

Seems like Schwartz is just a perfect fit at RG and Asomoah is more than capable at LG.

While it pains me to admit it and I'd love to give Albert's agent a bit of a poke in the eye by sliding him over to RT, the line is really at it's strongest with Albert at LT.

Albert - Asomoah - Hudson (I guess) - Schwartz - Fisher

That's a pretty outstanding O-line. Moving Albert in to guard doesn't really do us any favors in that it would seem to push Schwartz outside where he's already stated that he's less comfortable. Or he could remain a swing lineman with Stephenson at RT, but I really like the size and attitude that Schwartz could bring to the right side of that line. I'd love to see some of that nastiness rub off on Fisher.

And yeah, Dorsey overplayed his hand badly with Albert and the Chiefs have almost no choice but to overpay him for a year now. They're not going to get a trade done unless the Chargers get desperate. And really, if the Chargers think Fluker is an answer at LT, they should be desperate, but for some reason there's just been very little smoke on that front.

Albert's never been a malcontent. He put up with Haley damn near destroying him and the annual 'move Albert to guard' crap. He's shown up on sports radio several times and has always seemed like a gracious 'good soldier' type.

Pioli's comments during the draft brought this all into focus - Pioli offered him a great deal, his agent !@#$ed up and advised him to turn it down, now the agent is desperately trying to save face by tying this whole thing up.

This is where the fact that agents have only limited fiduciary responsibilities can really screw the athletes. His agent mis-read the market in 2011 and now he's putting his interests ahead of his clients and forcing him into a really lousy situation.
