This is an older movie, but I'd never heard of it until I watched it recently, and it's a good little movie. "Big Night" starring Tony Shaloub and Stanley Tucci (Tucci is also listed as one of the writers). It's nothing Oscar worthy, but it's a solid movie with good performances and writing, so if you need something to watch check it out.

Saw The Girl Who Played with Fire the other day but forgot to report back.
Personally, I thought it was much better than the first, though they clearly went a little more mainstream with Lisbeth than the first film. This, in my opinion, is both good and bad. I thought they stylized her too much in the first film but I think they normalized her too much in the second. The directing in the second was much more welcome and the script and pacing were flawless. Again, the Potter books could take some lessons. I also felt more at home with the characters in this version - I'm not sure why.

Ed Rooney would have made a great parole officer in GWTDT.

Just watched Kurosawa's Ran on Blu-ray. Such a visually arresting film. Dwam.

So.... Kingdom of Heaven. I watched it before and thought it was underwhelming. The other day I broke it out because I was sick and needed some mad passionate violence to soothe my soul.
What a turd this movie was. Particularly Orlando Bloom's performance. It was so flat and boring it reminded me of Keanu Reeves. Someone needs to inform these actors that there is a difference between steadfast and resolute, or even cold and calculated, compared to flat and boring. |

I saw the Expendables. I wanted, hell... expected to like it. But I really didn't. It was cool seeing all the old stars, but it wasn't enough to carry a movie.
For "Balls out" action with a sense of humor, I'd watch "Shoot 'em Up" 10 times out of 10. |
