Wait, if you were going by pressure generated, how is Wolfe the worst? He's actually tied for 3rd with Ayers.

Wait, no, I can't add. Wolfe is 3rd (26 pressures), Ayers is 4th (25). Wolfe also had 2 batted passes to Ayers' 0. Where did you get that Ayers was 3rd?

I said pressures. Plural.
The typical NFL definition of a pressure is the same thing PFF terms as QB hurry. You will not find a guy who generates 39 hurries on your current defense.

Use your brain.
In any case, no matter how you slice it, Derek Wolfe was one of the least effective pass rushers at his position. 59th out of 62 4-3 ends...and this is the guy who is currently your second-best pass rusher...comically inept. https://www.profootballfocus.com/dat...d=-1&filter=25

PFF recognizes he was a very unproductive pass rusher.

This whole thing has made me rethink the owner/player dynamic regarding contract renegotiation. I've generally been pro management when players want to renegotiate after a good year. You know, "**** him, he signed a contract! He should honor it."
Salary cap emergency renegotiations by management have, in the past, seemingly been about moving the money owed to the player around, but he still got it (in theory anyway). Now it goes like, "Here, take a pay cut because we can't handle this contract anymore." You know what? **** that. If you sign the player, and he remains pretty much the player you thought you were getting, you have a goddamn contract. If the cap gets in the way later, cut him or pay him. Your choice. Changing the terms of the contract without exposing the player to free agency is bullshit. |
